What's the best way to make gold using HB/GB ? Right now I farm ore and herbs overnight and sell the raw materials on the AH. The problem is that the market is flooded and prices are rock bottom. As such, I make very little gold

Had a skim read through and in all honesty if people are serious about making money from warcraft and HB/GB then they should already know 99% of this stuff.

Please take this post as a criticism rather than an attack, I just want to see something new and fresh that hasn't already been discussed to death over on mmowned.

The auction houses on most realms will start to bottom out now that the expansion is within view, sell what you have and start investigating into things like possible quest items and low level trade resources in preparation of re-rollers.

Which herbs/ore do you farm? And what server are you on? Naturally botters are going to be farming northrend herbs/ore so that's why prices are rock bottom. Having an xpac coming within 1-6 months doesn't help either. Pick a more uncommonly farmed ore like say mithril (and mithril is worth more than saronite/cobalt on many servers its 80-100g/stack and titanium veins are pretty uncommon in my personal experiance.) A good profile to use to farm mithril would be the one for hinterlands located here: http://www.buddyforum.de/showthread.php?4490-HB2-1-450-Mining-Profiles-Horde-Alliance. Again, it varies by server but that's good advice.

Yes, I agree what I made should be common knowledge. The problem, is that it isn't. I've bought a few gold guides in my life and not one of them told me to farm sfk. Basically they all just include 400g/hr eternal fire spots and methods of playing the auctionhouse when in fact this information is not only old and irrelevant but also not the maximum potential one can achieve. So, i'm supplying this common knowledge for free and hopefully educating the masses.

ok so I just ran the profile i recommended for an hour and got the following results:

      4 silver ore - 28g
      2 Jade - 20g
      1 Arcane crystal - 5g
      2 Citrine - 20g
      6 gold ore - 12g
      47 heavy stone - 94g
      7 Truesilver ore - 32g
      58 Mithril ore - 290g
      11 Fadeleaf - 22g
      11 Goldthorn - 33g
      76 Solid Stone - 76g
      3 thorium ore - 3g 75s
6 dense stone - 15s (vendor value useless on my server)
      2 huge emerald - 15g
      39 iron ore - 39g
      6 Purple lotus - 12g
      7 Sungrass - 14g

      Total profit: 677g

Not as much as I expected out of this profile but it's half decent. Run this for 24 hours a day and its a 15,677g profit. I also got stuck for about 10 minutes mining a truesilver deposit. So it can make more. Results vary by server.

*edit* forgot to put 6 purple lotus and 7 sungrass. updated.

Brilliant post, thank you, 100% agreed

Also, shane, if you are what you say you are, you wouldn't share any of your secrets of any kind mate, let's be honest, it may seem selfish but the best thing to do is keep yourself to yourself if your this serious because your not gonna be laughing if so many more people want to sell gold now after this and fuck up the market further.

I'm not responding to your statement I've already answered the same question about 6 times in my thread and in pms and quite frankly I'm sick of hearing about it. So please stop spamming my thread with the same useless crap. Thank you.

Anyway, I ran the profile for about 7 hours give or take. So if my gold per hour theory posted above is true I should make around 4,739g and I got the following result:

For those to lazy to count:

      465 Solid Stone - 465g
      200 Heavy Stone - 400g
      376 Mithril ore - 1,880g
      179 Iron ore - 179g
      91 Sungrass - 273g
      60 Ghost Mushroom - 240g
      64 Golden Sansam - 192g
      54 Purple Lotus - 162g
      73 Fadeleaf - 219g
      3 Jade - 30g
      2 Huge Emeralds - 15g
      79 Goldthorn - 237g
      77 Khadgar's Wisker - 231g
      26 Liferoot - 13g
      22 Gold ore - 44g
      3 Moss Agate - 30g
7 Black virtol - 70s (worthless posting vendor value)
      28 Truesilver ore - 84g
      5 Wildvine - 50s
      2 Aquamarine - 10g
      2 Kingsblood - 6g
      8 mageweave - 8g
      9 silver ore - 63g
      5 Citrine - 50g

      Total gold made - 4831G

So 92G over what I posted earlier. Decent profile.

No actually I'm botting him just for gathering I just put twink capped because eventually I would like to do some twinking on him. I don't have anyone to run me through bwl/aq40 on that server. Wish I had my pally /sigh.

I read through the guide and in the "Recommended Toons" section and for a Rogue, Warrior, and Priest it suggests Tailoring as a profession for the CD's but that appears to be an obsolete recommendation. As of patch 3.3.3 the only Tailoring CD that remains that I am aware of is the Glacial Bag which is at 7 days. Using averages from the realms I play, here is the breakdown:

      Code:
         64g  = 4 @ 16g  Ebonweave
         96g  = 4 @ 24g  Moonshroud
          3g  = 1 @  3g  Eternium Thread
        -----
        163g Mat Value/Cost
The average AH value of a Glacial Bag is around 300g, so the above yields an increased profit of 137g per week, or for the cooldown period an average of just less than 20g per day. There may be other reasons for taking Tailoring (balancing professions across a large number of toons, preparing for opportunity in Cata, etc.) but there wouldn't seem to be a sufficient return on the investment of leveling a tailor at 20g per day. This may pertain to some of other the professions as well post-3.3.3, but I noticed this one having recently leveled a tailor.

For the purpose of your document, the selection of a character class and the profession should be treated as separate concerns. My suggestion is to break that section into two: Character Class Recommendations and Profession Recommendations. Cover which character classes you feel lend themselves to the style of farming you recommend and which professions provide the biggest return.

One more note... you may want to post the recommended level/gearscore for farming the instances/raids you listed and suggestions on gearing up for farming quickly. You recommended a 6.5k gs lvl 80 ret pally or dk but unless you buy one already equipped as you mentioned, your best option to reach that level is probably a ICC25 GDKP raid or paying a guild to to carry you for a couple weeks reserving all of a certain type of loot for you. Those are increasingly accessible options during the current lull as people wait for Cata to come out.

Finally, some great advice thank you. I will add most of that. The reason I said 6500+ gs ret pally with sm is because of the listed raids aq40 and on. You usually cant 100% solo these instances unless you have one. I agree the mining/tailoring recommendations as of 3.3 are useless because there are no cooldowns. I was actually using the mindset of preparing for cata. Jumping into an expansion with cooldowns...etc at the ready will become very profitable. I didn't put that in the guide and should have.

On the gearscore part, my two suggestions may have blended as one the way I presented them. I was suggesting you post a minimum recommended level/gear score for each instance you recommend farming since you can farm SFK a long ways before hitting 80. And for those wanting to farm the highest end content, provide suggestions on how to close in on the 6500gs referenced. If I understand correctly, this is a gold making guide and not a gold selling guide. Buying a geared toon for $800 could make good business sense to a gold seller if they evaluate they can get a return on that investment, but its not a viable suggestion for someone that struggled with the decision to part with $9.95 for your guide to make more gold so they wouldn't have to buy from sellers. The levels/min gs help this latter target audience start making gold now while they work to gear up and farm the higher level content.

Ok v.12 is coming in a few days which will basically be a bug fix release. If you know of any bugs that aren't posted here please let me know because none of these bugs happen on my computer.

~ Images aren't showing up with pdf conversion.
~ Many Items listed when thottbotted don't show up correctly IE Assassins blade is a green yet Assassin's Blade is what I'm talking about. So i'll be adding links to all the items in the guide.
~ Doesn't load at all with cutepdf.

So.... most of my bugs are from the pdf conversion. I'll be looking into this when releasing v.12 and if you know of a bug or just want to comment feel free to reply here or send me a message anytime.
