So I got burned by a scammer today for a good amount, and I thought it would be a good idea to make everyone aware how these scammers operate, how to find them, and finally the names of fake ones. That way, hopefully, less people get burned and less people end up giving them credits so it becomes less lucrative for them. I know I, myself, was not very familiar with Skype and because I couldn't find any resources on this topic I ended up figuring out he was a scammer right after I hit the "send" button. This is going to be a very basic introduction to Skype as well, so people starting out who may not necessarily be familiar with Skype (like me) can avoid my mistake.

The scammers create a profile on Skype that closely resembles a legit seller. They impersonate them by setting their display picture to the same one the legit seller has, and changing their display name to match them. They are able to do this because the display name for your Skype account can be different from the actual profile name you create. So, a scammer who wanted to impersonate me could change their display name to Jests, even though that's not their profile name in Skype.

To see someone's profile name after they've been added, you click on the arrow to the right of their profile where it says their status, and country of origin, above the the chat log. This new profile page gives their native language, their gender, and their profile name. This is important because profile names have to be unique. In the example I used earlier, someone impersonating me would have the profile name something close to Jests (Jests. or something like that). This is how you can detect the scammers.

The two scammers I've come across so far are:

      vvtbg22
      whinkreton

I got careless and got burned by the later one. So, keep an eye out and lets try to stop giving these cats credits :) If someone posts other scammers up here and they get confirmed as scammers I'll add them to the list.

Even the sellers tell you this in bold capital letters and in very large images show you how to identify them, not only that but they usually also provide a "Add to Skype" Button so that you don't even need to risk it by adding them manually (I see how you could get fooled by adding them manually).

But, if you want to do this that's good as every little helps.

Depends who you're talking about. The one who burned me actually added me, so I completely bipassed all that. You're right though, usually if there's an imposter out people will post so. Even still, I haven't actually seen one that gives a detailed explanation. They just say "make sure you add by profile name" but they don't say how to check someone's profile name. At least they didn't way back when I added the other scammer.

Honestly, it's just a lack of information. I Thought I knew how to look at profile names for people, but it turned out I was doing it wrong. It was my own fault for not being certain, but what you're saying is my point. If people know what to look out for they won't fall for it.

They scam you for your credits, not money :)

You send them credits and then don't recieve the money payment. No credits selling website is going to pay you upfront.
