My "XAVi Technologies X5258-P2" keeps dropping the internet connection very often, sometimes it disconnects, works for like 4 seconds disconnects again and continues to do so, or it is a longer interval between each disconnect. Since I'm playing wow this is so ****** ANNOYING LIKE HELL.

I'm about to take my router and ******* kill it for good. Been living with this crap for months now.

Do you guys know anything about routers?

      Go grab a Linksys E1000 or a Netgear WNR2000-100NAS.

Coming from a guy who works in IT.

If it makes you feel better, I own a DIR-825 (dlink) and it does the same thing to me, I wanted to purchase a E3000 but I've read the forums and supposly its complete shit too. It seems like there is simply no support for both companies. I was looking at Netgear, but from the feedback on the forums, they seem to blow too... I have absolutly no idea what to buy... Now it seems like people using different products are all having the same problems after updating firmwares... could it be because of Windows7??

Well generally you're only going to hear about things when there is something wrong. Most people don't talk in tech forums when everything is working correctly. So you have to temper what you read based on that.

*ALL* technology has issues at some level for a certain percentage of users. Plus you get weird stuff like I know a guy who doesn't ever have any luck with anything Netgear related, but the same hardware works fine for our other friend.

The trick is to do your research and see what works best for you. Like I've been using Linksys stuff for years, never had an issue (even post buyout by Cisco), but I know people that can't get Linksys to work for them to save their lives.

I simply can't find the firmware for my router how do I do that? I don't know how to update it either.
