Do you think the majority of WoW players are assholes?

Well.. Try to play DoTA or HoN for a week and you're view on people being assholes in WoW might change. lol
(Played Heroes of Newerth under the whole beta, trash talking took a completely new level in my mind )

 

I think people in general are just assholes. Especially on-line. Everyone is an internet tough guy because they feel there are no repercussions.

The basics of why alot of players in the game is purly due to outside bulling. You'll find 90% of the 'trollers' or 'assholes' are players on the lower end of the social scale. For example im noticed a few of my guildies when the get pick on at school etc they'll release their frustration out on other players because it makes them feel a bit better. Most of them dont intentionally do it, they are just reproducing what happend to them in real life. Also alot of the ragers are tuff behind a screen because its exactly that - a screen. There is noone coming to their house to beat them up or give them shit at school so its 'like' a safty net. All you gota look at it is that despite their big mouths, large ego's and straight out thickheadedness is that what ever they are feeding you or give u shit about they probably copped 1000% worse that day in life.

I have noticed more and more that the better geared a player is the bigger asshole they become.

bossland I read at one time they were going to have spectator mode in Starcraft.

The answer is a combination of everything you guys have said. It's anonymity, no repercussions, and immaturity all combined in a perfect storm of asshole behavior. I had responded to a guy on the PTR this morning who had said "This is so stupid that Dalaran doesn't have any portals". So I sent him a tell, and we went back and forth for a bit (in a good way). My opinion was that Dalaran was going to be a ghost town, since most people are going to be in one zone at a time, in either Eastern Kingdoms or Kalimdor, and that perhaps he should wait to see what Cataclysm brought before being so judgmental without actually experiencing the content, and therefore to see how much of an impact (if any) losing the portals in Dalaran are. I think I got through to him, but that's rare. Usually you hear them spew any hateful shit they can think of, which is when I go ahead and report them. I also stand up for guys I see being abused in trade chat, and the like, including sending people tells asking them if that was really necessary, and explaining (as was mentioned here) that everyone was new at some point, and we should encourage, not discourage new players. The response is mostly negative, but that won't deter me from sticking up for the "little guy". Someone has to.

I also have a RL friend at work who clearly doesn't "get" the warrior, based on the fact that he is spec'd arms, yet has tanking, PVP, DPS, and Frost resist gear on in the same set. I do what I can to help him, but I'm limited because he plays on another server. I think if we *all* took some responsibility, helped people as much as possible, and didn't join in when the hateful assholes descended upon the helpless newbies, we'd give these pricks something to be mindful of.

I agree with almost everything that has been said about online gamers here, and why they are assholes.
What astounds me however, is this peculiar extremely condescending tone most WoW players have towards others. It's depressively offensive, really, and is what sticks out to me as a trait most World of Warcraft players have.

I watch everything mlg event live for the most part each season.. i agree starcraft 2 is a more skill orientated game but the WoW arena match look equality as challenging..

I see where you're coming from, I don't understand why someone would be a douchebag when something is said about lowering expansion prices, it wouldn't affect them...unless theyre a Blizzard employee then in which case it backs the theory that they are assholes, but we already knew that. Also at 15$ a month from about 12 million people, thats ~ 180 million dollars (usd). Now this is just an estimate but I'm going to say after taxes and having to pay all the employees theres at least 70 - 90 million left for the execs and top dudes, and that is not counting sales from the game set, and it is also not counting what is spent on Blizzcon every year. So I don't think they would lose any sleep if they lowered the prices of the previous expax. I would factor SC2 into it but I've not played it, I would like to though.

 

why exactly did this thread get bumped from 2010? there where no new post at the time of viewing. ether way i think we should just leave well enough alone.
