Well it's been about 4 months since I returned to wow and decided to bot for some ore. Having no prior issue with botting ( I never did that much anyways) I got a perma ban this week. On the only I account I own, thus my main account. I used one profile for three days between the hours of 8am and 2pm. I never botted out of those times. Never more than 6 hours at a time and partially supervised (I responded to whispers and guild chat). I was banned at almost 4am Wednesday morning and I hadn't been on since 10pm Tuesday night when my raid ended. Beware, either they're on the look out or I got reported by a few butt hurt people. I never botted for more than 6 hours straight, never botted completely unsupervised, and never botted at night. It was an ore/herb bot in the valley of four winds. Although I was just farming ore. I did however appeal and had it reduced to a 72 hour suspension.
Also like to add that it was a gather buddy profile that was waaay down on the list called "[H+A] [Mining] Valley of the Four Winds - cyb0rg's Mining Super Route" and I did not use any other botting method for anything.
Thank you for your contribution, however useless it is. You could have said "never use bot" instead of generic "never use [module name]". Problem is not gatherbuddy. Blizzard clearly doesn't know how to detect it or we'd see a massive ban wave. Problem could have been someone spotting a bot and reporting it. Problem could have been using old public profile that too many players have used before. Problem could have been dumping lots of auctions on auction house and competitors reporting that. He botted 6 hours a day in one session, probably mailing all that ore to alt and posting it all on auction house at once. I see people posting more than 100 stacks of ore all the time, clearly botted. That could easily be reported and lead to ban.
I don't know if it was a widely used profile, it was on the 7th or 8th page of gatherbuddy. I did not send the ore to an alt or post it on the ah. I smelted and traded with one of a few transmution masters in the guild, and then traded and cod'd the trillium bars to people from trade chat, but I never cod'd in large quantities (more than 12 stacks, or one full mail). But I also bought a lot of ore off the auction house because the stacks were cheap enough and the procs for trillium bars is worth it, so not everything I handled was obtained through botting. So in short, I never sold the ore on the ah, or mailed it, or even sold the smelted bars on the ah or in the mail. Either the profile was already caught from wide use or I was just reported because I botted in the day instead of at night. Also, as I stated previously the bot was never unattended for that long, I filled my bags then ported to org to smelt (turned bot off) and if someone wasn't on to make trillium bars out of it I put them in my bank and turned the bot back on once in pandaria.
