Okay so i just got the O.K from my dad to build a new computer, so i either ask for your guy's help again, or if someone can teach me how to tell if parts are good/compatible etc. I want the same thing, a cheap computer to play WoW at high+ settings with ~45FPS or higher (with shadows and other settings disabled). If you guys could find a motherboard that would work with the better of the two Ram sticks that would be great, save me even more money = )
My dad said if it can be done for less than $800 that would be great, and please keep in mind it doesn't have to be a monster of a computer, just needs to be able to play WoW and other steam games (CS:S) with ease and fairly decent FPS. If you look in first post you'll see my video settings and i still only average 10-35 fps >.<
ok so i just built a machine, for less then $400, for wow development and other things, it should be perfect for what you need. just get a better video card. and harddrive. dvd drive. definatly doable for less then $800. you say that will fulfill what i'm looking for, around $400? When you say get new video card, did you not include one in that computer "build" you listed, sorry haven't even looked yet. As for the hard drive, can i just use the one on my current computer? so i don't have to transfer everything over?
gimik: For 1 wow, CodenameG's build is good. Tho for several (+5), I'd recommend you to get a more powerful system. I myself can have over 10 WoW with at least 25 fps (I've capped it at 25 ) with this build: CM Storm Scout Midi Tower - 3 120mm fans standard + I've added 2 120mm AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition PowerColor Radeon HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 Chieftec Smart Series 550W PSU Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H, Socket-AM3 Crucial DDR3 1333MHz 4GB KIT, Hitachi Deskstar P7K1000 500GB, 7200RPM, Even tho this build was the Lower High-End build like 1 year ago, it is still good. It costed like 8000 SEK , which was around 1100$. It would be around 800$ now, I suppose
It should be sufficient. Tho it will not last long , probably a year or two. So it is recommended that you do buy a more powerful system.
Because the world evolves, and that build is already getting pretty old. You will probably not be able to play some higher requirement games with it. Not smooth at least.
Now are you wanting this to just play wow on? Or are you doing other things like video editing etc on it? Basically all you really need to run wow is around 4gigs ram+ and a high video card...you could just buy an nvidia gtx 580 and play wow at ultra settings on the pc you have now.
specs: A high end graphic card is not needed, neither is 4gigs of ram. I can play at around 120 fps with my lower end graphic card, at ultra settings. Not in dalaran of course, but outside populated areas.
from what I've heard, my PSU isn't powerful enough to support huge upgrades, i'd have to upgrade the PSU, my processor, video card, and get matching ram sticks. And yes just play WoW/Steam games like CounterStrike Source. Also 1-2 years if fine with me because in 1-2 years i'll be in college so = )
If you need to upgrade all of those parts, you are better with buying a whole new computer. But check CodeNameG's build, tho upgrade the processor to a 945 or 955.
What graphics card do you have? I have an nvidia geforce 9800 gt which isnt even a gaming card and it will run wow at 45 fps on ultra with a single 1.86ghz processor and 2gb of ram...now before with my nvidia 6 series gfx I couldnt go over low settings, point being basically wow needs a decent gfx to play the cpu and ram isnt a huge issue.
I plan on building a new computer, i was just pointing out to Specs that it's not as simple as getting a new video card. As for the processor, i have no clue when it comes to computer parts, so i don't know what a 945/955 is. If you could get links that would be great.
The only time wow even really puts a strain on the cpu is zone changes, loading screens, and startup.
I got a ATI 4890, an AMD 955 and 4gb DDR3 1333MHz ram. 9800GT is very old now, so it is understandable that it does not handle the latest textures and shadows very well.
I'll build you one for around 800ish (with links) that will last you a decent time. Given you will be using your old HDD and CD/DVD drive and Case
