A new intel CPU is coming out sometime in q1 2011, if I recall, I would suggest waiting if you can. otherwise check out http://i1002.photobucket.com/albums/af150/The_FalconO6/CurrentLogicalPCBuyingGuide/Guide.png Since WoW is more of a CPU based game, you can sub out a graphics card for a better CPU. I would suggest a 460/5850 for graphics card, and an i5 or higher for cpu
Thanks for replying Polasjaa, however i'm not computer savy and don't quite know what 460's/5850's etc are, so if you could provide links to where i could buy one, that would be awesome. Do you think the video card is fine and just the CPU should be upgraded from Codename's build? Or should i upgrade both?
Don't get a GTX460, this card sucks for WoW, many forum posts about it, I have brought one (before reading posts) and can hardly get 15fps on low detail sometimes. The cards and WoW don't play nicely G
and run at about 1000 degrees... cause its made by EVGA... /QQ as for Good parts for CPU and Video Card http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115067&cm_re=i5_760-_-19-115-067-_-Product - i5 760 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150505&cm_re=6850-_-14-150-505-_-Product - ATI 6850 by XFX Very nice Card.
I like Dave's recommendations, but do i really need a quad core? What are some Quad/Dual cores around 170-200$? And what are some video cards i can use for around 100-140$? I'll be using these other parts: Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-4GBNT http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138179 Newegg.com - hec HP585D 585W ATX12V Power Supply - No Power Cord - Power Supplies Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Elite 310 RC-310-RWN1-GP Black / Red SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Is my rig sufficient if I upgrade the GPU and get a SSD? (Recommend me a GPU, SSD) Gigabyte GA-X38-DS4 Intel X38 Q6600 @ 3.4 GHZ OCZ SLI-Ready Edition 4GB 1066MHz Dual Channel Samsung SpinPoint 500GB SATAII Hard Drive 16MB Cache 7200 RPM PowerColor HD 3870 XT X2 1GB GDDR3 256bit Antec TruePower Quattro 850W Modular PSU Are you sure? as I was considering getting one of these as I have heard so much good things about the GTX 460
Please dont hijack my thread, once someone helps me with my last two parts, (CPU/Video card) you can use this thread for your own needs.
Well sir - I beg to differ. If you supply the card with enough power to run it properly you will not have these issues. 450W MINIMUM! Do yourself a favor and get a 600W if your running 1 card. No issues with a GTX460 here at all, 120 FPS on ultra detail no problems at all... EVER!!!! I almost forgot to tell you to disable core parking in win. 7. For some reason I saw this on a forum a month or so ago and tired it and my fps jumped big time. CUDA makes a big difference in my system being that wow is cpu intensive. Check to see if the cpu cooler is seated properly and look over everything for higher than average temps if you still have problems. I am OC'd from 3.2ghz to 3.6ghz with a thermallake cooler. No problem at all. I still use DDR2 ram in win 7 64 bit. Still at best I do believe wow only utilized 2 cores on any multi core processor. I could be wrong but thats what I am remembering.
Yes, you really do. Also please refer to the link that I posted if you want to build a computer. http://www.tinyurl.com/falconguide 460 - Newegg.com - MSI N460GTX CYCLONE 1GD5/OC GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card 6850(instead of 5850) - Newegg.com - MSI R6850-PM2D1GD5 Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity
Thanks for posting some video cards, but please try to make them within the price range i ask for, for the CPU between 170-200$ and the video card 100-140$
If you can spare and extra $30, this card can Max WoW's graphics and still have very little stress. Newegg.com - Palit NE5TX460FHD79 GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 768MB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
Yeah i know i need to upgrade a lot. That's why i'm going to be using Codename's build check post #91 (top of page 10) and those are the specs ima be using. Yeah i'f i use all this video card + the ram/PSU/CPU/motherboard/case it will be perfect price. So this is prolly what i'm going to get: CPU - Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X4 925 Deneb 2.8GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor HDX925WFGIBOX Video Card - Newegg.com - Palit NE5TX460FHD79 GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 768MB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card RAM - Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-4GBNT Motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138179 PSU - Newegg.com - hec HP585D 585W ATX12V Power Supply - No Power Cord - Power Supplies Case - Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Elite 310 RC-310-RWN1-GP Black / Red SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case This comes to a total of ~505$. Can i get feedback on this build? Is it all compatible, is the PSU powerful enough? Etc just don't want to order everything then something won't work.
So if no one has any objections to the build in the post above this (#97) i'm going to order it soon.
