Out of the box when you install wow if you're running a x64 machine you're going to run the 64 bit version of wow. What need would the average wow player need to specifically set wow to run in 32bit mode?

pimpampum's and klep0906's arguments are so valid it's sickening.

It's harder to find a needle in a haystack when there's actually a haystack.

Thought the same, but Steam seems to be spread in US mostly and partially in EU, with low popularity in other countries/regions.

I disagree. I haven't used a bot since the banwave.

So you can't prove to me that only a fraction use x86...that's exactly what I thought.

And you also can't give a single, valid reason why x64 keeps us safer.

I think I proved my point.

Obviously everything is speculation, but the dismissal that the architecture could be an issue.

I am fairly sure that the detection for the honorbuddy bans, and the ***** bans were a heuristic approach, and not software detection. Running the 32 bit client, on a 32 bit machine, I was not caught in the wave.

While making a bot support x64 would not make it any better, or any more secure for software detection, it does help obfuscate if they narrow down who they look at. There are very few reasons to run WoW in x86 if your machine is x64. Claiming that a fraction of users user x86 is trivial. I believe it's a fair assumption to make that a fraction of users do intentionally run a difference version of the client. It would make sense for them to narrow a search down to these users, and then find commonalities and proceed from there.

edit - I guess competing bots are censored, fair enough.

I might sound like a complete noob. But what difference does it make 32bit, 64bit or 86bit? What would make 64bit for example better then 32bit detection wise?

First, there isn't an 86 bit, x86 is just 32 bit. It just describes the architecture of your computer's processor. Most modern desktops and laptops are built implementing a 64 bit cpu. Pretty unimportant for the average person. The instruction sets between the two are different.

As for detection, there's no major difference between the two. I suppose the bot developers are slightly lazy, since it would require more work to develop and it would just add more things that could go wrong. However, Blizzard can immediately know if you're running your WoW in 32 bit on a 64 bit computer. This doesn't necessarily mean that this is had anything to do with the ban waves.

I've always wondered why they call it common sense.

Let me help you with one small facet of the bigger picture and a tiny hint to get you rolling. X64 has been in every cpu since 2003ish.

      The end.

In case you don't follow, color me impressed if your 12 year old pc is still viable to game on, never mind running period.

If you still don't follow, I give up. The cold hard stats that you just require to be convinced, likely don't exist in the public realm. We call that circumstantial or beyond reasonable doubt. Again, I certainly didn't name it common sense.

You just proved to me how un-knowledgeable you really are...

Just because CPU's have X64 built into them, it means absolutely nothing if the OS you're running doesn't support X64. You can't run 64-bit software on a 32 bit version of Windows. That is a fact. Most computer users don't even know how to check what version of windows they're running.

If you think gaming powerhouse computers are the norm in the world, you're in for a rough surprise if you ever do IT work. It's only in the last couple years that pc's started having over 4 gigs of ram.

But thank you for verifying to me that there's absolutely no way for you to prove the garbage you're spewing. Didn't really need for you to say it, but I'm glad that you realize you can't prove anything.

      may 2015.

      86% x64 systems - 14% 32 systems.

Now, come on Ryfto. Stop being so dickheaded, and try to open your mind. Now what, Steam is restricted to high end machines or something? You are not doing any favour to the Buddy staff for defending something as obvious as this is.

In fact, you are doing quite the opposite, and affecting the whole community by doing so. We should ask for what clearly would make us harder to detect in any situation.

Even in the case of software detection , the resources used to check 6 million accounts are hugely bigger than those used to check 1 million accounts. Ain't that common sense?

If you were actually in IT for any corporation you would know that 32 bit Windows is no longer normal for anyone to have.

Apart from the fact that the only bots to be untouched by the bans being x64 (likely due to not being looked at period as opposed to some superior anti detection) but I doubt reports, or data gathering or anything of the like has anything to do with the ban wave.

It's my opinion that it is in fact a hard detection and is based around the bots method for hooking. Why you ask? Simple really. Not only were multiple bots hit, but a hack which uses similar methods to attach but isn't a bot at all, was also detected and banned. It has no profiles or ctm/navigation to log at all so detecting it had to consist of actually knowing it was attached/running.

Anyhow, this has been beaten to death, revived, then re beaten to death again. All we can do is hope bossland is changing their MO to being a bit more proactive and diligently working behind the scenes to bring their product up to date. Until then :p

The fact that you think taking the resources to review a million accounts is small it goes to show how delusional you are. It's less than 6 million, yes, but it's still not a realistic number.

The additional fact remains that you've proven in no way how switching to x64 protects us, other than giving blizz more accounts to review. As recent banwaves have been catching x64 bots, you can basically throw any idea that x64 will protect you more out the window.

Noone knows how blizz detected and is detecting HB or any other bots, and until that's figured out, speculating that changing anything will protect us is a moot point.

I am in corporate IT making more than probably everyone in this thread combined. Although the corporation I work for is straight x64, it doesn't mean the affiliated offices I visit on a nearly daily basis are all using x64.

And what the fuck does corporations being on x64 have anything at all to do with it protecting us? It has absolutely nothing at all to do with HB. We're still talking about over a million accounts, which is no small number to investigate.

It doesn't much matter at this point anyways. This thread has degraded into the same stupid argument that isn't going to change anything, nor is it going to change Bossland's mind on anything.

If you are unhappy about the bot being x86, stop using the bot. Take your whining to a bot that uses x64 and bot on with your perceived 64 bit protection.

Don't be surprised when you get banned using that bot as well.

I'm gonna throw a dart here, and tell you mate, I would hardly believe someone can work in any team being as stubborn as you.

I don't believe you, resorting to ridiculous arguments all the time. Your arguments:

      1) Prove to me prove to me prove to me ....I WIN!!!

      2) I make more money than everybody combined.

Plus, you seem unable to undertand absolutely basic math principles like 6 million > 1 million. You call me delusional for thinking 1 million is easier to check than 6 million. Orly?

If you behave like a 12 years old, you can expect us to believe you are 12 years old . After all , this is the internet, and I can claim to be Bill Gates if I want to.

You also state recent banwaves have affected x64 bots, Can you tell us which one please? Firehack is a hack not a bot, an IT could easily understand the difference.

      Enough with you.
