Well, if you've only read half my 1st sentence then how can you even comment on it? WoW always loses subs, and there is a downward trend going. This is no more than logical. The game is old and will keep losing subs, even with a new expansion. No matter how good the next expansion will be, they will never get 12M subs again. WoW is losing its appeal, and that's not their fault. You can keep modernising the most popular car on the road today, adding new technologies etc but sales WILL go down eventually. It's still the same old car from the outside and people change. Needs change. Competition is killing. The point I was making; over the years we, the gamers, were being spoiled. We now have smartphones that are faster than the pc we had when wow came out in 2004. WoW is long from dead but yeah, subs will keep going down. Logical course.
From my perspective of why the subscribers are so low isn't really to do with WoD being a bad expansion but more to do with the game being old. Blizzard try refresh content with more complicated mechanics but in the end its still the same game under the hood. The content all feels the same to me after playing for 9 years. Its only natural that I'm bored of the game after this period of time and I'm sure many subscribers who play feel the same way. I even get bored botting the game now as I have nothing to work for. I don't play it myself and I don't sell anything so what's the point? Just my 2 cents.
honestly if you look back at 90% of the expansions this happens. twards the end of the expansion people quit playing. once they announce a new expansion subs rise again. it happened in MoP, Cata, even happened in WoTLK which many say is one of the better expansions content wise for PVP and PVE. next quarter when they do the subs it will be back up depending on what they are releasing for the next xpak. i played all the way up to cata then quit within the first 3 months then came back when they revealed MoP. didnt look like a great xpak to me but the monk class interested me and i still play a monk as my main. ive slacked off playing in WoD because im tired of apexis dailies and garrison dailies and the same old thing everyday. it feels liek a job trying to keep 8 characters gread up and doing dailies on each. ive left my priest hunter and rogue behind because its jsut too much to keep up with them all. just give it a month or two and the subs will be back up like always.
Because every single person has left for the exact same reasons? Give me a break. And you haven't stated any reasons you've left, so how has everyone left for the same reasons as you? And again, why are you still here on these forums, commenting on a wow bot, for a game you hate so much? Don't you have anything better to do with your time?
Yeah the game is old but when you lose that much of a chunk of your base in such a short period of time, rather than bleeding out slowly, there is probably an event causing it. In this case we can put together an idea of what that event or set of events are. The WoD expansion gutted crafting, depreciated the value of most materials and legacy items and introduced blatant gold selling via the wow token and blizzard store. They also made a lot of other fundamental changes to the game which were unprecedented. This is why this xpac is special.
When people say "WoW is dying" I imagine them meaning that the game feels dead when you play it. Which it does! Not that it ain't profitable or whatever anymore, because everyone who's got something inside their head other than various gasses realises that it is still profitable and will be for a long time to come. I was forced to leave because of the banwave, but honestly I don't think I'll be returning in November. I was leaning towards returning directly after the banwave, but the more I've been away from WoW the more I realise that it is just bad. I've read up on 6.2 and it appears it hasn't really released any significant content and that coupled with the announcement that they wont release any more content until next expansion just feels like they've given up entirely on WoW. I'm looking forward to Overwatch instead!
5.6m has nothing to do with the game is old, it dropped cause it's overall crap. I loved end of wotlk, Cata and MoP, especially MoP in terms of pvp fun factor (3dps arena for the lols was fun yes). Actually I love it when expansion is at the end, usually it has been many patches that fixes classes up, and I don't feel so stressed in gearing fast fast fast. How fun it was to be on my druid for pvp (MoP), where I could buy gear for feral/balance for honor after I capped CP for my restogear. It was so much to try out, so many alts, and I felt all classes was in a good spot. WoD is fucked up in the pvp department, classes are gutted, pruned important shit from classes that needed it, and gave it to those that did not need it. I realised too late that WoD is all about raid, which I am actually having a fun time doing now, but outside raid? Shityard and the gay shit called garrison? The retarded state of pvp? Yes this is really bad, and the numbers don't lie.
combination of shit expansion + honorbuddy bans. Hopefully that hit's them where it hurts. The game is actually more fun when you can focus on the boss fight mechanics and not the combat rotation
I can guarantee you that the he banwave had next to no impact on subscriber impact. Bossland himself said that they've never had 100,000 concurrent subscriptions, let alone the 500,000 that some random GM claimed.
I can say to you that the bans did hit hard on subscription numbers. If the bans were massive or not i don't really know but i've seen the results. In group games like this you need to take into account the fact that ppl plays together in guilds for a common objective. In a moment that WOW was allready in a player decline and guilds struggling to recruit so they could keep their pool of members interested, blizzard did a mass ban that hit almost all guilds at once. I've listened to stories of guilds with dozens of players banned but i can account to mine only. A mythic guild that's was progressing quite good but that was allready struggling to recruit. In that night 2 members got banned... remember on a wednesday night. That week was a call for the guild... only minor stuff done. The next week a last effort to recruit new members that was aparently enough to keep raiding... but on that same week the GL and most of the Officer team decided to call it a day. They are not playing anymore and 1/2 of the members in that guild are gone from WOW also... So the point is... 2 members banned(one returned) and 10 to 15 guys leaving the game after a week because they CBA to keep pushing for something that was pointless. I know a couple of other friends guilds that had the same fate. In big group games like this, the risk of guild disband and members losing interest in the game is big. That was a really bad call for Blizzard. Those bans are way more effective on a launch... because guilds don't really care for the loss and the banned ppl have a big probability of coming back to the game.
No, mythic and even heroic guilds are a small minority. Even a complete sweep wouldn't visibly dent subscriber numbers.
