I have a new computer coming today, or supposed to. Got alienware aurora. Will have Intel Core i7 930 QC (2.8GHz, 8MB Cache), and Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English. I have never used this OS. Is there going to be any major difference with running bot on it that I need to do? Like the fix for direct X or anything? I'm assuming all should be ok. Just wanted to get head start on any problems might run in to now.
unless you have more than 4Gb RAM in your new PC 64bit aint gonna be your friend. and you will IMO be better of with installating 32bit. how ever you should get a bunch of RAM so you can run multible wow instances. besides that windows 7 looks "pretty much like" vista/xp -
Dont install 32 bit, 64 bit is the only OS supported by Alienware and its drivers, if you have any problems you will be asked to reinstall 64 bit to get support Hes gettin an Aurora, ofc hes getting 4gb+, unless he specifically asked for less.
the minimum is 6gig. I just stuck with it for now. Figure can always upgrade later. I was thinking upgraded to 9gig but I guess not. Only thing upgraded was dvd burner to Blu ray. Hard drive to 1tera
I've had my i7 920 rig for almost 2 years now and it is still going strong. You will enjoy it a lot, I'm very sure of that. Windows 7 is a much better improvement from the vista era. You'll be annoyed but UAC though, but going through properties and having it run as Administrator will help with that. 64bit will utilize the hardware that you're using too, so its good to stick with it. Your architecture is built for it, not 32. Mine originally came with 3gb and it had vista 64bit and ran perfect. I upgraded my ram to 9gb and installed Windows 7 and it's great. What kinda GPU did you get with it? I'm on a ATI HD4850 and I have no issues. Windows 7 64bit Ultimate and simular processors. Yours is probably a more recently manufactured processor and faster too, I see you got the 930. Does your have the Hyperthreading they've added in the new ones? If so, I'm sure it's going to be a blast. Prepare to run all your games though on maximum settings too, and enjoy the appearance to the WOW world alot more, including the cinematics.
Yeah I hand built my computer with an i7 945+ and 16g of ram with a 1GDDR5 ATI card. It's been about a year now and when running on three monitors, it has held up quite well. You should enjoy the upgrade, I just hope you didn't pay too much for the alienware name attached to it. If you spent anything above 2 grand, then the rest of it was probably spent on the name itself. Cheers!
Got the matching alienware keybourd and mouse. Total price was $1666.55 My last computer was a Dell XPS laptop. Cost me $1700. 1.8 dual core, 4gig, 200gig HD. Figured stay in same $ range. I never moved my laptop much like I thought I would. So went with desktop this time for upgrades down road. The video card's I looked up and say they are kinda cheapy. But with dual hoping would be good. Connected crossfire. I'm downloading wow now so will see how looks. I've never played full graphics mode. I have to play with all on lowest now. So will be change.
