Does anyone know how to make a website, i have the URL and the Hosting all set-up, I have 'Wordpress' installed but I think its to simple, not enough options, I'm not looking for a blog, I'm looking for a proper website, help would be very much appreciated, thanks
A friend of mine uses Intuit for her web based Celtic jewelry business. She says it's not like writing your own page but that it had plenty of options so that she was happy with the final result.
With a good theme and/or set of plugins, wordpress can be used for a full site.. I've heard good things about squarespace..
Ok, so plugins for wordpress, i haven't looked into them. Although i am looking to eventually end up with a very complicated site, say for instance, adding dropdown boxes in the page body I know this requires coding which (let's pretend i know how to do) but I don't see ways of uploading these sorts of things with it.
yeaa....... you porb should have googled it before you went out and purchased a domain and hosting...
WYSIWYG is pretty straight forward, even with zero programming skills he would easily be able to figure it out.
not even worried about that, wasn't costly, and seeing as this is what im going to be doing with my time, will check out Dreamweaver and the others suggested, Thanks guys
i take it dreamweaver is good then, DONT WORRY, this will not be some pathetic spam useless waste of a webpage, I wanna design the first page, and learn a bit, then its getting proffesionally made.
Dreamweaver is a great tool but NOT for people who dont want to learn to use it, it takes ALOT of time to use properly so if you want a quick website with little effort done use it, if your willing to put a few weeks into it then go the dreamweaver route and do a lot of reading.
Willing, and very interested, whats the point in owning a website if you don't know how to properly edit it right? Thanks for the reply btw
Dreamweaver is a worthless bloatware, no real web developers use a WYSIWIG. Here is a list of options for you. 1) Learn PHP/HTML skills like these will make you more valuable as a person and allow you to understand the internet a bit better when you visit websites. When I see a nice website I automatically can pick out the CSS features a developer did and what type of design pattern they followed. (980gs, fluid width, and cluster fuck). If you do take this route I recommend either Notepad++ or Aptana Studio as your text editor, and Filezilla to upload the files onto your server. 2) Look into Drupal, Joomla is just way to big to be used for a small website. Drupal is similar to Wordpress in terms of adding content, but as you said Wordpress is for blogs. Drupal is meant for rapid website development it supports websites with content as opposed to blogs. 3) Use honorbuddy to bot you up some gold, sell it, and have me build you a custom CMS for your needs.
if you want a website just go get a website ,dont bother much about the coding and designing website yourself,it could take years lol. After you have installed wordpress go to themeforest.net and find any good theme you like. Next find good plugin at wordpress.org.
To be honest, you sound like you know quite a bit about what im looking for, I'll PM you my hotmail address and maybe you can help me out (whatever cost).
thanks siton for knowing what the hell you're talking about. Please don't use dreamweaver. It creates shitty code and I doubt you'll even be able to get it to do what you want unless you know how to code already. And if you know how to code I have no idea why you'd be using dreamweaver. Either hire someone to do the work for you, or pay for something like squarespace where you can customize it a bit, but most of the hard work is done for you. (I wouldn't normally recommend squarespace, but I'd much rather you use it over dreamweavering yourself up a nightmare)
basically i have so many questions as this is a HUGE interest to me, so if anyone is willing to help then send me a PM! it wont be for nothing if I end up doing what i want to do!
