Hey guys. I'm unfortunately stuck at home until college and my dad is trying to save money but not wasting electricity. He wants my computer always "off" unless I'm there using it. I'd like to bot for leveling a new toon. He told me I need to pay him $10/month for electricity if I want to keep my computer on. Is this a good deal compared to what it would actually cost? And does anyone know about how much it costs to leave it on per hour/day?

      My basic computer specs are:

      2500k DC intel processor
      Gtx 460 graphics card
      750 watt psu
      Asus motherboard.

      Any insight would be great.

$10 a month for electricity? I'd tell my Dad to shove it.

Estimating an average usage of around 200w with that pc, and wow running for 12hrs per day, at 15c/kWH, gets you a figure of about $10/month. So it isn't all that unreasonable.

edit: of course this doesn't include monitors/speakers/etc... and assumes a single instance with low graphics and a compacted window so as not to tax incur high cpu/gpu load. I also have no idea what the cost of energy is where you are, so I just used a slightly inflated local figure.

You sound like a very consciencious, respectful and grateful offspring.

well if you won't pay your dad $10 / month to bot... then he prob doesn't have to pay for your wow acct either

and then you'll be out of a computer and a wow acct

      it could always get worse

      or...

you could get a job and move out and then pay $600 / month to live on your own (or more, not including a car)

      cheers

Dont know what prices you operate with, but an apartment here is 1500$.
Electricity extra is about 100-140$ a month.

10$ to stay at home and use the computer at all times? I assume you pay no rent and get free food.
Sounds like an awsome deal to me...

Solar system to operate 1 above average computer with sound for 12-14 hours = Approximately $2000 USD set up.
Mortgage payment plus all utilites = Minimum $1000.00 per month

Living at home botting like a mofo. Eating for damn near free and posting on HB forums = PRICELESS

For everything else there's... Get a job,pay the man $10.00 and move on with life. =)

      1 bedroom apartment:
      $300-400 / month (low end)

electricity: $60-100+ by yourself depending on climate and usage (heating, a/c)
      Water: $10-15'ish
Gas: if you use gas, it's not much / month... $10-20 depending on how much you cook and use the water heater
Cable / Internet: usually $40-60 depending on package (more for ultimate gaming)

Food: $100-$300 depending if you eat out or stay at home and cook for yourself / others

then you also have to furnish said apartment, pay for transportation, entertainment, cleaning supplies, etc.

It's much, much cheaper to live at home. Most people are in dept up to their eyeballs in their 20's because they're either too proud to live at home... or they were stupid and got kicked out

$600/mo would get you either a very small studio apartment or a medium sized apartment on the bad side of town here (Fresno, CA). I paid $765/mo for my first apartment on a decent side of town, around 725 square ft. 1 bedroom. Included water/garbage, not electricity/gas.
