      Hey there

5-6 years in a row now, kids (most likely the same) have been harassing my father with throwing stuff against the windows. We're talking Snowballs, ice, small rocks, branches - pretty much anything they can spare.

These "kids aka punks!" are now 18 + as they are now driving in cars

We've repoted this to the police several times, yet there's absolutely nothing they will do about it.
My father has even told the police the license plate of one of the cars - but they simply wont do anything.

So we've decided to take things into our own hands now and we've detected a kind of pattern.
They've been coming every night for the last 3 weeks on sundays.

Any ideas or tips to catch the motherfuckers? (I think i know the kids doing it, but i can't be sure so it probably wouldn't be the best idea to start threatening them with a good smacking)

We've been told that if we catch one and the police wont show, we should just say we murdered him and they'd be there in no time (but that's just a bit too much imho)

For real, what have your father done to deserve that shit? I mean it seems weird they would just pick him out randomly and start harassing him. Anyhow, I would try get a policeman stay over at the house over the time it usually occurs and let him take action. It might be a good idea to get them on tape as well, for future references. Good luck nonetheless

Edit: You could allways go out and beat the crap out of them if you catch them in their act, is what I would do, but I got anger-issues ^^

I believe my father has done nothing, but you know - some people sadly react very badly when they get angry. So he goes out and yells at people and such (and they probably find this funny)

Help from the police is not an option, unless we catch one sadly :(

You can always defend yourself if you're under attack.

Its a crime against property so I'd think the rules are bit different when it comes to defending your self. Any how, if you have the money install a surveillance camera - start with a couple fake ones pointing in each direction so you'll "get" their license plate & them on camera. Maybe it would be enough to deter.

We had nogoodniks setting fires around here and I knew who they were, yet talking to the firemen whilst they were putting out a bin fire, they told me you pretty much have to see them strike the match. Its hard, hope your Dad finds a way to cope.

Best thing you can do is film them, no one likes being filmed doing something wrong as they figure it can be (rightfully) used against them.

Motion detection camera (or web cam). Set it up where they cause problems and make sure there is plenty of light so that the camera has a good chance to get a shot of their face(s). Make sure your are not caught reacting violently or agressivly and then present that to the police. They cannot ignore it if you have proof. There is an app I use for my webcam called iSpy. You can use the free version to detect and record movement. If you pay you can get email/sms alerts. It can be configured to multiple cameras (even wireless battery opperatied cams).

Get any evidence you can. Ask the neighbours if they have seen anything or had similar problems. Ask them if they can be aware that your farther is being harrased and contact you or the police if they suspect anything is wrong.

It is generally not a good move to directly confront these types of people as invariably there will be more of them and therefore more statements (weight) to the police against you if you beat the crap out of one (or more) of them.

I don't know what country you are from, but in the UK there are many organisations that can help to deal with antisocial behaviour and harassment. I personally avoid involving police if I can help it, but the fact that you have posted here suggest to me that you are worried about it. That alone is enough for me to suggest approaching them again. Again in the UK there are community liason officers who are well equiped to help in these situations. Keep reporting any incedents as if something does kick off and turn out bad, the police will have a record that it is not an isolated incedent.

      Good luck

lawyers are better than the police

      1. Get good cameras and set them up so they are automatic
      2. Collect evidence over a few weeks and then take them to court for a restraining order, your father will get it
      3. If they break the restraining order they go to jail;
      4. Complain to the Independent Police Commission about the polices lack of help

The police don't care because most won't complain to the IPCC or similar... or that your father lives in a rough area and they couldn't care less about poor people.

Remember...when seconds count, the police are minutes away.

Remove the cops from this equation. Gather evidence and sue not only the kids, but also their parents. I did this and won 5k settlement when a group destroyed my camper. The parents are responsible for what their children do.

An easier way would be just to stick 5 high-tek cameras with lights etc on the front of your house

they won't touch your house it because they know that evidence can be used against them ;)

Lighting is a real problem for motion cameras, but what i'm hoping to do is to get a glimpse of who they are.

I'm 23 years old atm, they are about 18-20 max, so i would know them - as pretty much everyone in this neighborhood went to the same school.

I'd like to just get a hold of one of them and call the cops
Can't really gather a lot of video, because there's lighting problems where the cameras would be facing.
He's ordered a fake security cam for now, we'll be putting that up in the future.
Hopefully i'll be able to take a glimpse at who they are and confront them (I think that it'd be possible to get a restraining order through danish court if more than 1 can point at who is guilty (kinda lenient here)

Get a security light with a PIR to light the area ?25-50. The power supply can be improvised by using an extension lead and a plug. 500w of light is pretty blinding when your eyes are adjusted to the dark. If you are not good at DIY you can just balence it inside a window (take precautions cos they get uber hot). The light alone may be a good deterant.

Find the people who are doing it then catch them when they are not with there friends.

Pluck them off one by one, beating them one at a time:p. I'm sure they will be less cocky when there on there own.

Of course though, it might not be the best thing to do if they deside to report it themselves but you could say it was self defence as you thought he was carrying a knife or something :p

or add some more lights, with the camera's anyone feels safe in the dark dead of night, but walking into the light and vandalizing shit where anyone looking will be able to easily see you takes balls, or build a sentry, a motion activated one.
