I doubt a ultrabook wouldn't have overheat problems if your other notebooks had some.
Ultrabook : less space for the heat

which notebooks did you had? How much did you pay for them?

With a non virtual windows partitions booted honorbuddy and wow should run..
Well it's like a normal windows on a normal pc ;-)

We know nothing about you. Whats about using one pc for gaming / botting and one for the other links like sufing?

Macs are nice, my wife has a laptop and a desktop. Get the macbook for your daily use, and just keep the PC botting.

      to sum it up.
      - Macs are way overpriced
      - Macs specifications are crap with the price you pay
      - Once you buy one thing you need another. Eg. to plug into tv, you cant just use an hdmi cord. you have to BUY 'Apple TV' etc. you get sucked into an endless loop.
      - Designed to be 'user friendly'. How fucking hard can it be to open word? what way is it easier?

i had 1000$+ laptops. at this moment my GF uses HP pavillon DV6 laptop. the thing had to be shipped back to HP for fixing and it still is slow as hell. its not a weak laptop but it really is crap. my 4 year old desktop computer runs better than it does.

Now i want a laptop that is light and powerful enough to handle WoW and some internet browsing, maybe netflix and other things. im not buying a macbook air to game out on call of duty or anything. although it would be nice to be able to run it.

Only thing keeping me from buying a windows PC is the previous experiences i had with it. all laptops ive bought have died after 1-2 years of light use.
Macbooks seem to be pretty reliable (i see people still using the first generation macbook airs and they work fine)

after some online browsing and research i am hesitating between these 2 laptops :

Dell XPS 13 <-- looks just as pretty as the macbook air and is a little more powerful, bigger screen in a smaller size.
Macbook Air 11inch (i may get 13 inch because 11inch seems pretty small.)

Anyone have some experience with either of them your input is welcome. Im a student and 1000$+ to throw on a laptop is alot of money to me. so i really want to make the right choice here.
(although for the courses im taking i can use either mac or windows it does not matter.)

Edit : forgot to mention how AMAZING the multitouch pad is on macbooks. stupid little thing just makes everything so much better, do windows laptops have that? its pretty damn cool.

I always hate to chime in on these Mac Vs PC posts, but...this is simply not true. I develop applications for the Mac and iOS for companies to run beside their Windows applications, so I have a Mac or three. I have a Mac Pro going straight into my TV with a $2 DVI cable. Same with a MacBook Pro, $4 MiniDP to HDMI cable. Been doing this for years.

I am also an avid PC enthusiast, so I am as unbiased as it gets.

      ^^

I do agree about pricing and specification though. I have never had to buy one myself, so I don't feel any pain on that front.

      Are alienware computers worth it?

ive seen a bunch of shit talk about them on many forums from previous alienware owners. the specs seem impressive but do they last long?

one thing first: every notebook you buy (doesn't matter if from apple, alienware, company xy) has lower computer power as a desktop pc for the half price. This is totaly normal and the "tax" you have to pay for mobility. Notebooks cant produces as much heat as destkop computers so desktop computers can be higher clocked.

I have a Samsung R560 notebook and I'm able to bot with 3 accounts (i don't have access to more accounts so I'm unable to test more).
(but well this is a 2 years old notebook and i have paid 1000 € for it)

Alienware builds computers for "gamers" so it should be fine for playing (and botting).
But there is one more thing (again this doesn't depend on alienware or company xy):
for you, how important is the mobile runtime (running with battery). How many hours mobile runtime do you need?

well some notebooks have multitouchpad hardware but most windows driver are unable to use multitouch.
But theoreticly you could install apps with give you a multitouch feeling...

Mobile runtime isnt important, i dont plan on gaming more than 3-4 hours while on the go and alienware laptops can run games for 6+ hours. and macbook air aparently runs for like 9 hours or something.

im just curious as to how hot the overclocked hardware in alienware computers would get. we're talking about 3.1ghz intel i7 core or some crazy shit like that. that must get hot.

So i have to choose between the 11inch macbook air, the 13 inch dell XPS 13 or the M11x alienware computer.

Right now alienware fits my needs the most but are they quality products? (i can bear with the bulkyness of the laptop just because of the raw power in it)

      7yr IT:

Dont buy a mac, simple. The money you spend on it you could build an amazing rig or just save cash and build the same mac for less the price. You have to understand that Apple really doesnt have any advantage over windows at all, they sell you the brand. "Oh macs get less virus/threats" This is because less people use them, not because of superior software or some Mac god protecting you. Hackers/Virus/etc want info/data that can be useful or try to harm others. Very little people use macs compared to PC so why target macs?

In conclusion, its your money do what you want( and im sure you are buying one for the hype, its ok all the ppl buying it are ) but in the end when 2013 rolls around your laptop is going to be complete crap agaisnt my 400 dollar acer. My stats on this laptop : quad core, 4gb, 500gb hdd, wifi bgn, dvd/cd burners, independent video card with 1gb mem. I dare you to find mac with those stats for 400.

Dell makes the Alienware computers now, so I dont know how much of a difference it would be. I would look at Asus laptops on Newegg.com for a better deal, but that's just me.

well... Im pretty sure NONE laptop can run games for 6h+ with battery mode. NONE, no alienware, no apple no dell no samsung, none.

They are able to "work" 3-4h , 6h or 9h with power safing settings (battery mode). With this setting the power usage is limited.
You can't play games (well you can play tetris) with battery mode. None Laptop is able to run 9h AND play WoW.
Again, you may work with these notebooks for 9h, you may use office programs like word for 9h but you can't play games.

With all notebooks (apple, alienware, dell ...) you have to use a power suply for gaming mode otherwise all games will run like shit or
your battery is instant emtpy (30 min).

I may have missunderstood you. If you plan to move to XY and give your notebook power supply (main supply)
you can game as long as want to game

(I made this post only for avoiding eventually missunterstandings)
