Yeah, because it's free to play. How many of those would actually spend money on DII at that point?
You're looking for potential customers here, not "numbers".

I just wanted to point on the different types of players agreeing on one thing: There's just nothing to do.

A lot of people are playing right now because they got it "free" with the Annual Pass. I doubt most casuals will keep playing after doing the campaign two/three times only to get raped in Inferno. And of those that do, after that, they have nothing else to do. And those are the kind of players that buy your gold. The casuals.

Once you max out the BS/JC, and the stash (which I believe carries over to alts), what do you do with gold? Buy gear? What for?

What I'm saying is, if Demon Buddy comes out in two months, all you'll have for a player base is the hardcore gamers. Hardcore gamers play for the loot. The thrill of killing a boss and looting them in search for the perfectly itemized items.
I could be wrong, but I doubt those are the kind of players that buy gold. They'll already have it from farming themselves.

Like I said, maybe PvP will be awesome and people will remain hooked, but, as the game stands now, it'll dry up in a month once no one has anything left to do.

Again, this is just my opinion. Time will tell :).

well look, idk about you guys, but i think the game is ok. im not a huge diablo fan but id like to get a toon to max level and play with my buddys. the highest ive gotten is level 8, and im probably not the only person who's in my position. besides theres 10 character slots (or close to it) most people are going to want to have one of each maxed out. so the whole "game is going to be only hardcores in the next week" is completely false.

      You'll see :p

The game is fun the first time. But then you have to grind it out 3 times, on each character, to unlock inferno :(
The problem is not the game itself. It's just that there's a point where you just have nothing to do.
But you can't hold it against the game. It's not an MMO... it has to end at some point.

My whole point is, it's not an MMO. After the initial rush of the first couple months, your potential customers (which is not the same as saying players) will more than likely decrease very rapidly.

The reason I bot, in WoW and D3 in the future. Would be to farm for my own purpose. And I know that D3 will have a long life time. If you check a homepage like d2jsp Forums. You will see a huge trading system, that still is active in D2, or maybe not so much now, since D3 is here :)

I'm still sketchy about even buying the damn game.

Somehow i feel it's become too world of warcraft-like, but all my friends are asking me to play (problem is i am swamped with stuff to do untill like january/february next year) :D

People farm any open area with lots of mobs. I just do Hell ActII Desolate Sands. With like 120% GF gear. It's pretty easy to hit like 150k/hr.

As for Toney001. Not sure why you took it so offensive. But you are trying to bet your money on the best game developer in the world. I wouldn't bet against them. And if D2 lasted 12 years and people played til this came out. Why would this be any different? Not offended by anything you said. Idk if it merited a 1 day mute of w.e. But i'm most certain their numbers will fall, but the game will no die, not now, and not in the next few years.

Well that is you farming, the bots I have seen so far aren't even close to fighting against champion packs in hell with desecrate, plagued and arcane sentries enchant :) Or enlighten me if I am wrong.

I completely agree, except for the time. I think it will take 3 months, before we see the great decline. That's the norm for new games. People play for a month, and see if they like it. If not, they go away. It's one of life's histories with MMOs, and while this is more of an RPG, the concept is still the same. Those that don't join in the first month, will wait for the second to avoid the queues. Those that don't in the second, will wait till the third, to see the game as a falling hero. With less and less hype, the game will get less and less new players.

The RMAH would be a draw for more players, but it's going to make a lot of people lose money, thinking they are going to make it. When gold hovers at $8-$10 per 1M, and someone tries to cash out, after a sale, only to find out that the fees are fricken HUGE, making them lose 1/2 of their investment, then people will begin to see. But I don't think the RMAH is going to make it's new deadline of May 29th. Blizz will let pass the bots, but the game hacks, account hacks, and dupe bugs, are going to hold it up some more.

As for PvP... there is PvP in most games, but not everyone is into PvP. Maybe 10% of the population likes PvP, so even with 3 million copies sold, after 6 months you can expect to have 300,000 players (usually lose 90% of the player base), and what, 30k PvPers? If PvP is the endgame, with no additional areas or group dungeons, then we can expect a rapid decline from there. The worst part about all this hype, is at least 50% of the population expects to make money on the AH... I am constantly asked to buy gold (own a site). But have few customers even though I supply other sites as well.

The fees have already been listed and it's 30%. 15% to Paypal and 15% to Blizzard once you convert your Blizzard dollars (max of $250 before you have to convert) into cash.

So any transactions for real cash on the RMAH will net you 70 cents on the dollar. That's pretty darn good.

Probably because Diablo 2 was developed by Blizzard North, which sadly no longer exists. They left before Blizzard was bought by Activision from Vivendi games.. The lead developer there went on to start the company that created Torchlight, and is now working on Torchlight 2. That's what makes Diablo 2 different from D3. The item system. As it stands, the D3 item system needs a lot of tweaking - but D2 was far from perfect at launch, and didn't get good until a few patches in. The game has only been out for a week - I think people should just chill out for a minute. Time will tell.

fastest selling because of a damn good management... but game is really short and i guess nothing to do at max lvl ... im wondering if i should buy bot for it since there is nothing to do ... i think RMAH will be failure since nobody normal minded will not buy gear once there is nowhere to go with it or where to show-off it , since u dont have a town to do so ... u only travel thru content being in a quest ...

Diablo3 is like the gameboy version of WoW. Never the less, I'm playing it because it was "free"
