Two accounts logged in, one botting (same ip)==

Hi,

if I run two wow on my computer, one who's botting and the other one is my main account I'm like, raiding on, if the botting account would get caught, would my main get banned aswell?

I'm planning on buying another wow account, should it be on the same Battle.net, or on a new one? Does it matter?

 

Why would your main account get banned if you are not botting on it?

 

Because the accounts share the same IP and Mac adress, which means they would easily see that both belongs to me, that means the owner of the Main Account owns a bot.

 

thats the whole reason blizz created battlenet
so that you can play on two accounts @ the same time. but i dont think the ban applies to both , i mean if you get cursed someone for annoying you on account 1 and he isn't talking to you on account 2 .. they have no right to ban you on account 1

 

They can ban whoever they want for whatever reason they want; they don't even need a reason at all.

 

Yes they do. You have to have broken their TOS.

 

The TOS says they can ban you for anything they think is against the TOS. You don't have to have broken their TOS, they only have to suspect you of having broken the TOS (or EULA or whatever).

So indeed; they can ban whomever they want for whatever reason they want; they don't need proof at all. (they do need a reason, they don't need a good reason)

 

Nonsense.
If 10 people share a router to the internet (like in the same company or a student dorm), they all will have the same IP and MAC. That doesn't mean they belong together.

 

im not too sure about computer things, so please correct me if i am wrong, but i was under the asumption that MAC address were unique to a PC, therefore as you said in a student dorm, they would all share the same IP but because they are using different computers they would have different MAC address's?

OR does the router/modem have a MAC address aswell? and if they do is that the only MAC address blizz can see or can they see the mac on your NIC aswell? im curious about this stuff

 

I don't think you understand what is going on. The TOS is just helpful advice to not stand out and get banned. However, you do not actually own your account, you are renting it from Blizzard. So, at any time, for any reason (or no reason at all other then some developer had a bad day and is taking it out on a random person) Blizzard can remove your access to their account.

 

Yup, the router has it's own MAC address.
In theory the MAC address of the PC running WOW is in the IP packets as well since it's needed to route the packets to the specific PC through the router. But that address isn't readily available and it's very easy to change it (both on the router and on the PC)
So no, the MAC address has no other value than the IP address does. Both an IP and a MAC can point to multiple PCs and both and IP and a MAC can be changed easily.

 

The IP Packet also contains a Port number and a Process ID so the Router can identify wich computer on the Lan side the packet is intended for and the process id is so the computer can identufy what program the packet if heading to. its correct that the LAN IP is translated to WAN ip in the Routers NAT function. but its still possible to check if etc. 100 packets is headins to the same computer, just different applicatiions.

Okay then....

The real answer is: No one knows.
There's a good chance nothing will happen to your main account and making sure there is as little to link them as possible is a good way to go.
But in the end there's always a chance of getting banned because, let's face it, there *is* a link between the two.
