So i got back into wow after a couple of months and decided to renew my GB subscription, when after sitting through a number of routes to check for obstacles i noticed about 3-5 other GB botters in every zone. I have been quite comfortable with the service before, but the presence of other botters has made me nervous and even debate wether to even continue using it from fear of being caught. What was most surprising was that even with very little knowledge or exp. about botters i was able to pick out the people who were using the service. What made it so obvious was the sequence of how the bot attempts to reunite with its route once it mounts after gathering a mineral or herb. Im sure everyone knows, it ascends straight up vertically and then continues on its cycle. From a player who has physically farmed minerals for a while before jumping on the botting band wagon, players just dont take to air the way GB does. Because there is a sense of urgency, and "gotta find that next mine/herb" is the common mentality, players and myself, mount and use forward and ascend keys to get to our next destination. Diagonally escalating vs GB's straight vertical lift off When the bot ascends, its extremely clear that it is completely unhuman and that its rigid and cold sequence is the product of a scripted language. So why not implement diagonal ascension to help GB with its battle against detection? To mimic certain things players would do when racing for min/herbs, would introduce human characteristics that would be subtle and make it less obvious of its true nature. Diagonal ascension would run you into more obstacles on your way back to cycle your loop. But that could be quelled by adding simple if/then condition, that if it does run into an obstacle, only then could it climb vertically. You could even introduce it with a toggle, and it would force users to pay more attention to their routes. Another idea was the possibility of adding /s 'douche' or other text the user can write, when encountering a node with another player on it. It would do it on 1/10 odd basis and randomly choose something to say out of a library of one-liners the user has prepared. what ever you get the bot to say, would obviously be simple and not tempt a real player into a conversation (ie: /spit /slap). Being that banning is a product of other players reporting you, this would let actual players know your authenticity. I think this will do it for now lol
honestly even when farming by hand I tend to ascend first then go forward. I have been doing this for 5 years and never had a problem so by using GB it still looks like I am doing it by hand. Morga
Im siding with OP on this one, it has become a bit of a problem, never really paid attention to it, but now that you mention it, it is a good way to spot out botters :/ Just my two cents.
Personally, i have never seen a player ascend straight up. That could partly be the cause of a populated server, where players are rushing to get to that next min/herb. There are even physically disabled players who have less than fluid movements within the game. I would say the way you gather is part of an extreme minority. The purpose of diagonal ascension is to fit in with in the larger majority.
My 2 main toons that I used to raid on are pretty well known, if I change my pattern people would notice. People notice when I don't log in my normal times or I'm not on msn or anything else out of the ordinary. I guess this is why I don't think ascending straight up is a issue, its my "norm". If they could add feature to choose how you take off and land it would be a nice addition so everyone would look "normal" and everyone would have less to worry about. Morga
everyone wants to make money and not work leave them be ............lol It will be like this from here on out on all games.....908523095723750 Botters and 985029 players.
even though its a no, i can see why a up decent is needed since its impossible to tell what obstacles will come into play, but if you ascended down at an angle, couldnt you just take the cords, that you had before you started to go for the node, and instead of ascending vertically, just directly go to that cord, therefore taking the same path you took to the node? yea it might look a little more like a player, but you'll lose time flying back over space you've already covered.
Reversing out of the node to get back onto route is possible. It could potentially work Regular players arn't the only culprit, im sure GMs keep watchful eyes over an area, who im sure are adept at picking out erratic play. Sad to see this has no way of being implemented
I used glider for 2 years. Glider got shut down. I thought all the bots sucked and no one used them and the botting problems were over for WoW. Botters spot other botters. If I saw a guy fly straight up, I thought he was eating or something and was 1 handing his mining route. no big deal.
this is very true. I remember post on glider that said that F took my spot so I reported him....WOW what an ass. People on glider flamed them out of the forms. Does gb or hb have any follow alarms, log out after X minutes? and on a land mount its easy to spot a botter. They move to X then I am going to Y, oh wait there is a node or a mob to kill. Off he goes and gets the node, NOW to Y? NO back to X and then to Y No one does that while playing. And most times ONLY A BOTTER would notice. I was really impressed with the pathing in caves until I watched him. Enter the cave, run it and harvest, Great, then back to X and then to Y...NO back to X then again into the cave for a short trip then back to X and then to Y. Not sure what is up with that.
