I made the VM only 10 gb as suggested and now have to extend, but it create a partition. What to do with it in the VM? can you merge it?
I currently have a VM setup with Winxp SP3, should I change it to Win7? Is there a speed difference? I always thought xp was the lightest out there but you seem to get great results from win7.
Well, you said we need copy of D3 on the host VM so that is 8 gb already. How can you have less if you need space for the copied folder and the os and demonbuddy etc.. I havent made the clone yet. Is there a way to delete the extension and make it back to 10gb?
Im not sure if you get me right, or I get you right You need D3 on host VM which is our PC, not virtualized one. Same for DB. Basically all that your VM has is bare OS. This is why I wrote about network drives and so on. Tbh, it a matter of preference. I actually stick to Win7 as it is more reliable for me, and simply sad its is technologically newer. I have a Atom netbook with 1Gb RAM and factory installed XP works much worse that my Win7 there. If you're ok on WinXP, I dont see any reasons to switch.
On my host PC, the Diablo 3 folder is located in c:\Diablo III I got diablo 3 to work on the VM the first time, then i forgot what I changed and now it doesn't work. Couldn't get DB to work either. I see no errors when setting up mklink, but when i try to start the diablo3 launcher it says "the specified path does not exist"
The batch files are throwing errors saying that mklink is not an internal or external command. EDIT: Apparently they dont work on xp its vista+ Pretty sure I'll be redoing my VMs. On a side note 3.2ghz quad core 8gb ram How many VMs could I actually run? I'm thinking 1 on host + 2 on VM anyway to squeak more out of it?
Make sure that your copy on your computer (not the VM) is exactly as the batch file says. I had mine under D3 not Diablo III and so it was looking for the wrong file. Hope it helps.
Yeah, the pathing was wrong but i figured it out.. Now im stuck at the updating setup loop. How do you make the .exe itself start with -launch? I know how to make the shortcut do this but not the .exe.. Shaliuno: this is really awesome btw, not only doing proper vm setup as per your instruction but actually learned what is a .bat file and how to make one just now. Thank you so much!
Wouldnt i need to include that in the batch file? Where to make the shortcut exactly, and still have to run it through cmd right?
finally got it to work. -.- so you were supposed to run the program/shortcut from the network z:\ drive.. (i kept trying to run from c:\)
Uhh.. how do you do that lol, wont let me run it from Z: edit: hmm ok i can make it run from Z: and even a shortcut with -launch, but it still gets stuck on the updating setup loop :/
Your supposed to launch from the C: the batch file creates and links the z: to the same files in C:. You cant actually (not that I've seen) use the Z files, so they're copied to the C: which you can use. After running the batch files you should be able to look in the c drive and create a shortcut with -launch from the exe its linked too. (I'm using XP and unable to link the files so this is me shooting in the dark)
That doesnt work. You have to run it from cmd and even then if its a shortcut of the shared .exe it will say wrong pathing.
