All realms that were scheduled to be live at 11:00 AM PST are undergoing additional testing. We?re currently anticipating that they?ll be live and playable by approximately 1:00 PM PST. We apologize for the delay and are working to have the realms live and playable as soon as possible. figures.
I'm not so much surprised, but rather disappointed that between this maintenance as well as the last one that we extended, Blizzard hasn't refunded us a day's worth of play time. Slam Blizzard all you want, but they have pretty good about that in the past.
I've kind of lost my faith in Blizzard's word because of this.. From now on I won't even look at WoW on Tuesdays until I get off work around 8:30.
Just a mathmatical point of view from Blizzards stand point , a 1 day refund for everyone who is a current subscriber would be a loss of approx 5.5 million bucks for them. This is assuming that there are at least 11 million subscribers with current active subscriptions.
They used to care about their customers...I count a total of 17 days they credited my acount within the first year of launch due to extended downtimes (that I don't remember being too frequent, actually)
I'm quite certain that 5.5 million gets dispersed through out the salaries of all the employees. I don't know how many people are employed by Blizzard, but I highly doubt that the amount you would "pocket" would be substantial.
I may be wrong , but I think sometime during last years Blizzcon ( I watched the Online Stream version ) they mentioned I think roughly 4000 employees around the world.
and then the top 1% who earn 5000% more than the average blizz tech.... unless you're one of those guys, you're boned.
I do understand your math and I do agree that it would be a 5.5 million dollar hit if they credited 11 million subscribers 1 day of playtime. However if I pay for a 30 day game card I expect 30 days of game time, I also understand that downtime can't be predicted. But even a child knows that its unfair to charge a consumer 100% and only give them 96.67% of what they paid for. Basically what I'm saying is Blizzard is charging 11 million subscribers a total of 5.5 million dollars and giving them nothing for it whenever they take 24 hours of downtime. I wish I could charge 11 million people 50 cents each and give them nothing..
Please take more extended downtime...especially if it means better servers, better gameplay, and a better game. Considering these are the upgrades for Cata and they are probably getting all the servers logged into their regional BG servers with these changes I'm a-ok with it. Please take more Blizzard. My server has been in desperate need for a hardware upgrade for a while. I'm glad its finally happening.
