evilbyte, LOL, your read all the guide and didn't get one simple thing: 1 VM = 1 D3 client. It's simple. If you need a lot of clients, just start them on the host, vm in your case will be simple waste of computer's resources.

Is there someone out there using Windows Server 2008 R2 to bot ?

I have no experience whatsoever in server management and am struggling.

How am I supposed to setup the shared D3, DB and Batlle.net folders ?

I'm not able to correctly setup a share between my host and the VM; should this be achieve through a mounted network drive or simply a network share ?

Should one use teamviewer or can RemoteFX be used to access the VM while running the bots ?

      Help please :D

      Yes it should be possible.
Your bat file seems bad, DLL names have changed since new patch, maybe ur grey screen comes from that.

am i missing something or i can't see how that is a success?

My friend can run 4 instances of D3 (without any virtualisation)
      core 2 duo
      with 3gb of ram
      and some mobile gfx card

sure the PC is quite loaded, but if that was the dedicated machine it would be OK specialy compared to i7 and SSD costs...

Virtualisation uses more resources since you run each D3 instance on a separate W7 instance; and it does'nt use ur gfx but uses cpu resources to emulate 3d.
So you need more CPU and RAM than you would to run the same number of instances without virtualisation.
And he didn't say it was a success, he was conducting tests to see how much RAM per VM was optimal.

      I need some hardware advice.

      Case

Running Windows 7 pro 64 bit.

      Processor : i5-2400 CPU @ 3.1GHz

Graphics Card : nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS 512

8GB RAM ( this is an obvious upgrade if I need it, 50$ and i can double my RAM )

      500GB HDD (only 100gb fre)

      850w Power Supply

No aftermarket cooling has been added.

Which piece of hardware is holding me back the most for running VMs?

I know I need a better HD but should I go Velociraptor or a 128GB SSD?

Adding 8 more GB of Ram would be easy and pretty inexpensive, ill be doing this anyway.

Depends how many bots u wanna run ?
      You could upgrade to an i7, with my i5 2500k @ 4.5Ghz i don't think I can run more than 6 bots.
Go for the SSD if you can, and upgrade RAM ofc.

doesn't this guide need some gfx card name emulation, so that blizzard see it is not some VM ?

Looking to run about 4-5. I doubt I'll upgrade to an i7.

Just ordered 8 more GB. Thanks.

Thinking about getting a 99$ 128GB SSD as well.

how much instances i can get with this, so i can still surf the web and play some movie in VLC without lagging:

      AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2GHz
      Corsair DDR3 4GB PC1600
      SAMSUNG 500GB SATA2
      ATI HD6850, 1024MB DDR5

i know its crap :) what if i buy 4 GB more ram? any difference?

btw i followed the guide but i didnt did that mklink stuff, i just put shortcuts on VM guest's desktop which point to WM host shared folder of D3 and DB...

D3 and DB runs for sometime then D3 closes withhout any warning message... After a minute or two... I did allocate 2gb of memory and all 4 cores...
      anyone have a clue?

I mostly followed the guide but instead of mklink I simply copied D3 and DB into the VM. However when DB runs, D3 freezes constantly. Can some one help please? I5 3570K+8 GB RAM (2GB for VM)+GTX570.

EDIT: 2 cores seems fine now, slight fps drop occasionally
