no idea if this is the right section (if not mods please move thread) during my legitimate wow playing i was always plagued by "Bots"...well now iv started botting and iv found something rather interesting, BOTS DONT LOOK LIKE BOTS. go into a bg and my toon plays fairly well, at least as good as a noob. he jumps over stuff that blocks his way, he heals well enough and for the most part contributes to the team. i normally rank 1st or second on the healing logs in 10 or 15 man bgs. BG buddy is always in the top 3. so now to the question: how to spot a bot? this is not ment as a how to guide to start reporting your fellow botters but rather a question regarding what to avoid doing, apart from the obvious play time limits and mixing up grinding locations and auctions. things iv found to be commonly thought characteristics of a bot to be untrue: Bots dont jump...no idea where that came from but iv found they do jump. Bots run into walls...yes they do but almost immediately work a way around. Bots dont play well...bullshit! BG buddy plays my priest almost as well as i do Bots start in the same place...this one is still true in bigger bg's, its kindof obvious so i avoid the 40v40 bg's How many "he's a bot because hes doing X" have you guys come across?
Usually in trade chat when someone notices a bot listing 1 unit of green tea leaf about a thousand times, or when people call out people camping AH as bots because lets face it no human spends every 15mins scanning/revising prices on the AH to undercut.
If you watch your bot youll notice a lot of things they do and it becomes painfully obvious when other people do aswell. now I notice bots like I notice people streaking across football fields. Id say the biggest thing is click to move, noone does this while actually playing. people make b-lines to objectives not click to move through the middle of paths. In bgs following the largest group and everyone being stacked on top of eachother, its especially embarassing in Isle of conquest, where on alliance side your team will be rushing docks and about 15 or so bots all jump off the cliff go to a mass of horde at workshop. when gathering flying strait down to nodes, click to move rather than auto run, choppy unfluid movements, jumping on other people as theyre trying to mine. There are so many things that put up red flags to me, Ive really cut down my botting because it really is so obvious.
