Suggestion... So we stop getting these stupid error posts, HB ADD A notice that the bot is down on the website. I'm sure if you guys just added a little memo on the site whenever the bot is taken down people won't be posting anymore error messages.
you could decorate the website with flashing lights and sirens and you'll still get these posts. Some find it too hard to understand patch day = bot goes down
Not at all, they just need to put the notice on the header section, if they can read well enough to navigate and use the bot they can read the notice on the website well enough not to post.
Amen to that... If you have ever worked in IT, you soon learn that no matter how "idiot-proof" you make a system, soone or later a bigger "idiot" comes around and manages to crash it...
Lol, perhaps but the point of it is seeing the notice, most people get errors on their cellphones and panic, that's clearly what keeps happening here. If they just got to see the notice on the site, maybe... Just maybe it'll make them wait like the rest of us.
I think it'd be swell if Honorbuddy detected a new patch and said, "Hey dumb$@#%, it's patch day gtfo." At least then I would have known. First experience with botting so soon after a patch. I understand it's probably annoying as hell for so many people to make patch related error posts, but not everyone has tried botting the same day after a patch is released, hence what brought me to the forums after troubleshooting for a half hour. Of course, a simple search of the exact error message quickly brought me to my senses before I embarrassed myself by making a new thread.
I suppose we all have this issue, most if not all are just impatient, but since they only give you an error of incompatible attachments it doesn't really tell you anything as to why the bot is down. That kind of error makes people curious and it makes them come here posting the error thinking they fucked up. That's why adding a bot down message on the header bar wouldn't be such a bad idea, maybe even add indicator lights or something for the shutdown. Whatever gets peoples attention to check it out before posting.
as someone who already has like a hundred sites bookmarked I agree that there should be something on the front page that says "new beta build,or HB running fine" or something like that, I dont want another bookmark just to see the status of the bot through a post that seems to not change for days at a time. It kinda makes you feel out of the loop when you go to the status page and the message hasnt changed in 2 days and then you see all these new posts saying "how many hours do you bot" or "new update for this plugin" and your going how the heck and why are they giving updates when the bot is down. Its madness trying to figure out if there is an update. I have downloaded 4 beta builds since yesterday thinking they would at least have that going.
I would just like a big red block to take up 35% of the screen that says: Patch Day with the Kill yourself meme
its not the impatience, a lot of guilds and people run the guild raids on patch day and all the best raid groups are on those days, later in the week all you get is the worst groups possible, full of trolls and completely bad players that dont know mechanics of fights, and I reallize the irony of saying "dont know mechanics" when the bot does a lot of work, but no one cares how the fight gets done as long as its fast and no wipes which is rare towards the end of the week.
It is rather a misleading topic since there are so many posts reflecting messages that the bot is up are being posted all over the forum scroller. But like I said adding that little memo at the header wouldn't be difficult, hell they can even implement it to link with the bot login server and when they shut it down the lights go off / updating bot by it and it wouldn't be as big of a deal as people are making it. Getting Errors seriously does make people think they fucked up, so an error message is not the kind of thing you want people to get. Everyone being smartasses replying to their error posts doesn't help the situation either, it just makes another member of this botting family not contribute to what could be 1 hell of a botting experience.
I remember back in the days with RuneScape with the bot powerbot. The client detected if the bot was out dated and then gave a popup saying it would take a few hours to update and that you DON'T need to post this and the forum and I don't need to tell you what they still did
Someone should start a new thread entitled "Create your "Patch Day" notification picture". Have an adventure ...
a simple dismissible modal window on the forums stating that the bot is temporarily down would go a long way
There has been an announcement up for DAYS saying the bot will be down for 5.4.2 It only affects Honorbuddy so it is only posted in the Honorbuddy section. Look better next time.
