For instance, my guy is botting in hellfire or whatever, and he keeps getting ganked. Could I party with my main account and be free from any account infraction? I would have to party with him because I'm on a different realm. It's not really assisting my bot in any way, but it does give a sort of association with my main account. I'd like to do it because it just adds a little fun to it, and feels fuckin good when you avenge yourself. Would that be enough to warrant a ban/suspension? Has anyone done this before? thanks for responses!!

Botting on the same IP as your main account already associates both. If you get your bot account banned there is a good chance your main will get hit even if he doesnt bot.

As far as I know, IP has nothing to do with other accounts getting banned. People have said they have botted multiple accounts on the same battle.net account and only some of the accounts that botted were banned.

You are actually correct but when they find a bot they usually do an investigation to see what other accounts are linked and hit them all even if they have not botted.
