I've been botting for 2 1/2 years. When I started, I did it on my main account; I recently bought a second one and lvled a 90 druid on it to farm (I made it an RaF so I could reap the benefits of having more alts on my main account on my server). Anyway, I normally bot no more than 8 hours a day, sometimes less. I also talk while on it sometimes and my druid has some epics. I was on my warrior, who is around lvl 45, he was in Tanaris, no tells or anything. I looked over and he was disconnected; sure enough, says I was banned for 'third party software' in an email. I am appealing it and will keep you updated. Is this a wave? I am pretty smart about how I do this. I have only been questing lately too, not farming till yesterday.
Not necessarily; my friend uses these bots and was banned for questing, he said people were messaging him and saying they were going to report him because he kept flying in circles
Your buddy wasn't banned for questing; he was banned for being stupid and leaving his bot unattended. I'm assuming you farmed with GB2 yesterday, which is likely the reason why you were banned. It's possible that you set off a server-side tripwire which caused a GM to watch you today.
How is leaving a bot unattended "stupid"? If you are going to sit at your computer and watch it the entire time you may as well download a multibox program and play yourself.
I only do it when I am at my computer doing work. One screen the bot/wow and the other is whatever I am doing. I just pay half attention to what it is doing so if i see it acting silly I can stop it and continue to act silly and jump in circles and ***** jokes with people. I am less productive on my school work overall but I am a hell of a lot more efficient then I would otherwise be just playing.
You don't read threads on here very often, do you... The majority of people who have been banned using a bot like HonorBuddy, GatherBuddy, etc. never watched their bot. I can almost guarantee that at some point your toon will get stuck running into a wall because your computer or the bot froze. Maybe people angrily whisper you when you steal a node from them and they report you when you don't respond to their rage whisper. Better yet, wouldn't you look strange trying to loot the same corpse for five minutes? The point is to bot safe. If you're not willing to at least keep an eye on the bot every few mins to make sure it's not screwing up, you're being reckless. But hey, if you have money to piss away on new accounts every few days, all the more power to you, I guess.
