(I figured this was a support issue and posted there initially, but Tony closed it, saying it wasn't... if you feel this should be in another section, please move it) I've been in and out of the botting community for many years now. I've recently returned to WoW after a 2 year hiatus, and was severely disappointed to see that bgbuddy is still getting stuck running back and forth in the same spots in AV and IOC, along with the other 10 botters doing the same thing beside you. Still waiting around after the gate opens for it to fucking close again before using the teleporter, etc. I get that you guys are a business... and you're going to focus on revenue streams like buddy store and the 1000 other bots you've released since I left 2 years ago... but IF YOU ARENT GOING TO FIX BGBUDDY PLEASE REVISIT YOUR STANCE ON RELEASING THE BOTBASE SOURCE CODE. You guys used to care about our accounts, and implement features to help us keep them. What happened?
Drink too much coffee before you came up with this asinine pissy post? Then leave we do not care if you go away another 15 years. The base bot has gone above and beyond the call of duty of what was promised and what was released. There is a addon that helps with the bg side of things but heaven forbid a one time payment for this bot that is still updated and supported 2 years later doesnt meet your expectations. We bow down to you god of gods.
Nice and constructive! Hopefully you aren't representative of a community-wide change in attitude... but I guess we'll see. I didn't decide HB's price model. This community was ALWAYS extremely happy to help fix/develop/bugfind HB. All I'm asking, is that we are given that opportunity for a completely neglected botbase. It is just so ridiculously blatant when someone is using bgbuddy that it's insane. Why bother with the complexities of tripwire avoiding warden, if the scripts provided are going to garner player reports 100% of the time you use them? Opening up bgbuddy to the community allows EVERYONE to bot safer. (which also means more bot sales btw ). Maybe you should grow up, drop the keyboard warrior act and think about what is best for HB and the community as a whole.
I've never really used BGBuddy myself, however as a long time supporter of Millz, I purchased his BGFarmer botbase and it does a brilliant job. Could be worth checking out if the bundled one isn't cutting it for you.
I know this doesnt address your issue, but you could always purchase the BgFarmer that Millz made, I use that in BG's and it works worlds better than the built in BGbuddy. Buddy Store That way you can still farm that honor and not stand out as a Botter so much. Hope this helps, Just know there always seems to be another way to do things with the bot. I have noticed that there are always multiple choices for just about everything.
Millz looks like a great developer, and I'm sure his botbase works well... but that isn't really the issue here. I shouldn't have to pay for a third party botbase, priced at more than honorbuddy itself, in order to do one of the main functions of honorbuddy. I mean hell, it's called HONOR buddy. Especially because if the source was released, bgbuddy could be fixed and improved by myself and others... to be completely acceptable VERY quickly. A little offtopic, but I'm actually not a big fan of paid plugins/botbases etc. I'm more than happy to donate over time (a little too happy according to my previous donation history ). but paying up front, more than the price of hb itself, to someone that could simply drop off the face of the earth and offer zero support whenever they like... and have zero to show for it (no source) just doesn't gel with me, for what used to be such an open and collaborative community.
I agree with the OP to be honest. There has developed a kind of tacit acceptance in the community that BG Buddy simply wasn't up to the job, and for a long time was considered as one of the major source of bans due to the constant stucks and archaic pathing. Many people over time have requested improvements but it never seemed high on the priority list for the dev team. Millz has stepped in to indeed provide a great paid product to fill the gap, so more power to him, but I also believe as you do that the core product should have gotten some love by now.
I also tend to agree with the OP... I don't apologize either. BG buddy has been a huge source of weakness for HB. I'm absolutely happy to donate for community developers to work on projects (which I have done over and over). But I don't like that the first suggestion by fellow botters is to purchase another botbase - we should absolutely count on the Buddy team to back us up on the BG buddy front. Just my 2 cents.
Don't pretend some home coming guru, constant efforts were made to improve HB, somehow prats don't see how bot transcend in years.
No offense to you because I partially agree with what you're saying, but if you want the source code so you can fix it, you should be able to develop your botbase that's better than BGbuddy yourself. Sounds like it's time to take your knowledge and put it to use making money instead of expecting BGbuddy to be fixed. It hasn't in years and I doubt it will be fixed any time soon.
This just isn't true at all. I'm not a programmer at all... but I modify programs in tens of different languages that I don't know on a daily basis for work. I'm very good at deciphering programatic context... but I don't have anywhere near the knowledge required to build anything from the ground up in any of the languages for any of the things I modify, lol. Essentially I rearrange elaborate textual jigsaw puzzles to fix unwanted behavior. This post was EXACTLY what I was trying to say. Far better worded than I could manage, thank you! I'm really relieved that others have come forward in support here, thanks guys.
Don't worry, you are definitely not alone. I don't have a problem per-se with the new buddy store business model, and some people clearly love it, tdw above for example seems to be collecting paid products like they are Panini stickers. The problem on the BG front is now there is no financial incentive for the HB team to further develop BG buddy, in fact if they do, it would likely limit sales of BGFarmer, which they get a cut of, that's where my bug-bear lies.
... Its is all about funding. pretty simple concept. Thank you Buddy team for all the hard work you have put in. Milli offers great botbase and more, for what your looking for.
i have no use for bgbuddy, however, you bought a product. that product no longer meets your needs. its time to buy a different product. you say you are hesitant to invest in software with no guarantee of support, longevity, or usefulness, but that is exactly what you did when you purchased honorbuddy the first time. maybe its time to invest in an improved piece of software and move on.
All it takes is a simple map editor/creator. If someone created that, it would solve a lot more problem, i tend to use bg buddy a lot, and i got to say, everything is pretty nice besides the profiles, a lot are so out of date it is completely useless using it, you stand out easily. the profile needs a huge improvement, which i think im gonna have to do manually,(count the clicks, go and edit the xml for alterac valley, change hot spots, to create own.). If there was an auto-generated map and hotspots linked, it would be nice and dandy, i made a thread and didn't get any feedback really, been an honorbuddy supporter for a long time. I want to help out the community by making and creating unique profiles, while also fixing old outdated ones.
What you say would be correct, IF it was my needs that had changed. They have not. BGBuddy has changed, to be no longer useful due to its own bugs. It really is a pretty grave conflict of interest. I'm not even asking them to fix it... just let ME fix it!
This is fair enough, but if the product is not fit for purpose (i.e. It is the best way to get you banned of all the ways of botting) why even bother to ship it with the core product. As a brand new user, if you don't do your research, this is very well what might happen. If I bought Microsoft Office, and wasn't advised in advance that if I created spreadsheets in Excel I wouldn't be able to save them, and I bought Microsoft office partly to get hold of a spreadsheet program, I wouldn't be a happy bunny. Either improve it, or drop it completely from the roster of shipped products that come with HB in my opinion. EDIT: My analogy isn't great there, but you get the idea...
I thought of a better analogy... It's like a tobacco company that sells a range of cigarettes. They will all most likely get you killed in the end, but one brand in particular is likely to kill you within a week. The company knows this, as do the majority of smokers, but the non smokers have no idea, and there is no health warning on the packet. BG Buddy should come with a health warning : "BGBuddy can seriously damage your botting health".
