Apart from breaching the EULA of World Of Warcraft, Would selling gold be considered an illegal act i.e. can Blizzard sue?

No, there's no court in the US that would even consider wasting their time with this even if it was illegal.

If the IRS catches you making $50k to $100k per month selling ingame currency, ingame items, and ingame services they will definitely claim that it is illegal.
      Otherwise, you are okay! :)
Blizzard cannot sue you for buying and selling ingame currency.

Honestly, you can counter the IRS easily by telling them that you traded time/ingame currency for an equal amount of pay. Kinda like selling a car for personal use.

      Keep thinking it's illegal.

The IRS won't go after you for making money with a videogame as long as it's legal and it is legal in this case.
The cia and nsa do have agents working on wow mostly data gathering I guess.
World of Spycraft: NSA and CIA Spied in Online Games - ProPublica
Nothing to worry about really because they spy on everything on the web.

But since you're only ''selling gold'' there's nothing to worry about it's as legal as any other business you're not breaking any laws.
And the TOS actually protects you from getting sued by blizzard because the gold isn't yours and doesn't leave the game it stays to be blizzards property so you do not damage their game.

Aslong as you receive the money not in cash but digitally by bank or paypal whatever but even by western union cash it's fine.
It leaves a record who sent it aslong as the guy who sent it isn't a known criminal you have nothing to worry about because that's proof you have legitimately received money from legal sources.

In general: You cannot sell what you don't own and you don't own the gold ^^
You have it ingame but it is from Blizz. It's not physical so different laws apply to it ^^

Selling gold itself is not illegal; however, not reporting income to the IRS (if you are in the US that is) is. If selling gold is your only means of income, and you don't have a registered business, as well as reporting the income to them, they could potentially send you a bill for taxes due. You won't get jail time or anything, but you may end up owing them money.

You can't hide money transactions from the IRS, especially if the funds are transferred digitally. They have access to every bank record out there that takes place in the US.

If you're only planning to make a couple hundred dollars a month, I wouldn't even give it a thought. If you're planning to run an empire, you may want to look into legitimately running a business.

No they wont rofl. If they claim its illegal they get no money. If they just dont care if it's legal or not, they can collect taxes.

Death 'n' Taxes. Accept these two as axioms, you'll never escape them.

Not true. They can seize all your assets, sue your pants off, claim restitution and then throw you in jail for tax evasion and fraud. The IRS doesn't mess around when it comes to getting their money.

Will this happen? Probably not, but taxes is something you can't avoid if you're making money.

Like others have said, you're fine unless they pull an Al Capone on you and get you for tax evasion. Look up the laws in your area, put some money aside to pay your taxes and you'll be fine.

Also, since the gold is technically owned by blizzard and never leaves their possession, you aren't really selling the gold. You're selling the time you invested to acquire the gold.
