I was just curious what got most of you started with botting. Were you initially in it strictly for money or just development on your personal account? Also, to those who make profiles, I was wondering what programming skill you started at. Were you already good at reading/writing in different languages when you started or did you use it as a way to get better? I'm currently a CSc student learning to program and was wondering if it was a decent way to teach yourself to program besides taking classes and reading different instructional books. Thanks all
Started with Glider a long time ago. Only got into it because I hated leveling, and I didn't want to pay services to do it (which I stupidly did). From there, I just got addicted. Without botting, I probably wouldn't play WOW.
My first MMORPG was Everquest Online Adventures for the Playstation 2 and being it was played via Playstation you were very limited to being able to automate things so in game currency (Tunar) was very sought after. While shopping for a new PS2 controller on eBay I came across one that allowed you to record a series of button presses that it would then repeat whenever you pressed or held the programmed button. I then went out and found near single near insta-spawn mobs in the game and set my toon up in front of them and used a rubber band to hold down the button on the PS2 controller that would repeat the command series I had programmed in. The results were great. I could afk level pretty fast and was making good Tunar farming rings in the game that you could turn in for XP. I then bought three more PS2s and a few really cheap 11" tvs and started farming the rings 24/7 across three different servers and selling then at the AH in game and would then take the Tunar and sell it on PlayerAuctions.com. The demand was HUGE and I made a couple thousand dollars the first month alone. While selling the Tunar for real money on PlayerAuctions I notice a couple level capped accounts got listed that were selling for $300-500 depending on the class and since I could level up just about any class to max level in a few days if I grouped two or three toons together and afk grinded them on higher than normal level mobs I started splitting my time between farming the rings for Tunar to sell and leveling characters to sell. During the time that Nercomancers were grossly over powered I could get $400 for a single level capped Necromancer account faster than I could level them. I spent about 4 months doing this and then WoW came out and all my in game friends were migrating to that so I went along too and over the next month or so I gave up on the EQOA stuff as the game as getting stale and other people had started selling accounts and Tunar as well which was bringing the market down. I started using Auto-It and an auto mouse clicking program to do some small AFK stuff in WoW and when Glider hit the market I got into that from near the beginning. Started selling WoW accounts on PlayerAuctions and did ok, but between the cost of the game, subscription, and the required human interaction time needed in the beginning I didn't put a ton of time into it. Only enough to pay for my subscriptions and expansion packs. When the game got stale for me I took up multi-boxing for about 8 months. When HB came out I got on board and got familiar with it and started selling accounts again to cover my subs and make some extra money for PC equipment here and there. Now a days I have a good job and don't even play the game much. I run a couple accounts to level max the toons and then farm and stockpile gold which I generally use to buy things for my guildies and other in-game friends when I'm in the game.
One of the gold guides I used mentioned stealth botting, which led me here. HUGE relief for me as I was getting tired of WoW and as others have said, without being to automate some of the more onerous repetitive activities, I wouldn't play WoW at all. I enjoy leveling, but after you do the same quests 6 or 7 times, kinda boring. Since I have many alts, I can let the profile run and multitask something more useful for my time. I also like multiboxing so have been able to do that more. I haven't made millions of gold, but enough to do whatever I want to do in game. At my age, I also experience a lot of pain and fatigue in my wrists and hands, so this lets me play, raid, quest, whatever without suffering.
Fishing!!!! I was levelling fishing once and I asked the fellow fishing next to me... there should be an easier way to do this? , he told me try botting; he also told me if you get caught you lose your account, I did a search and found Mr. Fish it and that eventually led me to Honorbuddy. As many here if HB didn't exist I wouldn't be playing anymore... too many boring tasks that I do not enjoy that the bot does with ease The extra gold for my personal use has also come a long way, in my server for the last 3 years and this was according to the long gone undermine journal 70% of glyphs were sold by me buahahahahaha Tekken
Got married, had children, no time for the mundane stuff. Now I can fish and play with my baby at the same time! Totally worth the lifetime purchase.
Wow that was an incredibly interesting story! I had no idea they ever came out with playstation controllers that could do such things. Definitely a good read, thank you for your reply!
I was thinking about this the other day trying to remember when, where, and why I started. I think I narrowed it down, I first started with Everquest and Macroquest2, using it for many cheats and automation to farm things. Then I played wow and used Open-Bot, got hit with a banwave from that. But from there I tried many other games and always looked for bots for them, before returning to wow and finding honorbuddy.
