You should always do a fresh install whenever there is a new patch due to offsets.

Never bot in dungeons and AFK..

Always babysit the bot during the use of a new unfamiliar profile.

Make sure you turn off kill between hotspots.

Now you guys add to it.

      Good advice apart from this.

I've never heard of it and it doesn't make a lot of sense since there is the auto-updater?

I have a specific process of loading HB (when not using HB Relog).

Open Battle.net client, Click Play, Exit Battle.net client (so it doesn't appear in the icons at the bottom right), load char, open HB.

I always bot afk because I use my own plugins, the bot is suppose to be a bot ;). Some people forget that that's the whole point or part of the point of a bot to let it do the work for you.

I have not used Honorbuddy in awhile, but I remember closing the bot and clearing your compiledassemblies and settings were the most helpful things after updating your bot or plugins.
Your plugins are great. The most important part about a bot is not getting caught using it and they all ease the bot into a smoother experience.

Whenever I do a new install, I delete every file and folder except 'Settings', so, obviously, my settings are kept.
This means my Framelock, HB placement, bot specific (Fx Enyo), CR specific etc settings stays, but CompiledAssemblies, Cache and all other system files are renewed.
And because I do it in the same folder, Windows keeps my Run As Administrator checked for Honorbuddy.exe and so on.

      Regarding:

It does make a lot of sense. The closest I can compare it to is updating firmware on a router. Even though there's an "auto updater", a lot of settings are kept that related to the old firmware, which may have changed to the new firmware. So doing an NVRAM clear and factory reset is a good idea. But not needed if you go one version up, however if you have an old installation..
Which might contradict what I said first, but I re-do my settings (can do it in 2 mins, gotten pretty good at it :D) every now and then.
TL;DR: There are many settings you don't see in the GUI, which can cause issues.

      Contributing to the thread:
Set your Framelock (Settings & Tools) to your lowest FPS. Mine's a 45, because that's the lowest I will dip to during raids with everything on Ultra.
Look for plugins, many are useful. Examples I use most: Disenchantix and LogMeOut (great paired with HBRelog/ARelog). I don't use ItemRemover or TidyBags, but they deserve honorable mention :)
Like Untg, I've set my Battle.net client to shut down after game launch, so it doesn't sit there detecting my haxx all day long.

I have yet to set up a truly AFK bot, but I can feel I'm getting close, and it's definitely my goal - as it's the purpose of botting.

Always just copy and pasted over when updating, for 2 years now - been fine.

      YMMV on install process.

I have about a 20% success rate on fresh installs. One laptop still doesn't have a solid install. HBRelog and the launcher still do not work together.

However I have had no problems with auto upgrades except when the Current HB version was not promptly updated (last tripwire patch) so it downgraded, causing all kinds of issues.

Software that won't cleanly upgrade is sloppy. We don't allow that where I work. Unfortunately that is the lazy norm for finding a quick solution.

      1) Download HB zip file and clean install. Copy over settings (unless major HB update which is rare or plugin/CC maker says to because of major changes), plugins and CCs. Update Plugins and CCs.
      2) Update Wow. Rename WoW64.exe to WoW64whatever.exe and launch from wow.exe. Don't even use the launcher.

The HB autoupdater was/is a good idea in principal and i am sure it *must* works for some but i have always preferred to do a clean install myself. Also i prefer to have different wow folders for each account as i am paranoid about the WTF and other folders which hold info on each account. I have ZERO proof to justify my paranoia on this particular point but meh :)

I just nuke compiled assemblies and cache when updating and have had no problems. Occasionally I'll nuke the meshes because something seems to have corrupted. No reason to lose all of your settings/etc. As long as you replace all of the old files you're fine. Even if something gets left behind it isn't going to be used by the new version.

Most bad installs/updates are user error.

      Botting advice ... ?

Singular botting advice? Pretend you're a player with a mass amount of free time. The whole "safe botting" idea is a redundant scenario.
Want to not be banned? Don't do something that makes you overly stand out. What does that mean?
If you bot for 20 hours straight doing the same damn thing over, and over, and over again ... you're asking for the hammer.

A few plugins here and there, LogMeOut is a must, some monitoring plugins, a reloger and a goal.

      More than 5 bots?
A goal, a time ratio break down and a supplier.

      More than 15 bots?
You run your groups, shuffle your mats, stagger AH sales on 3 additional accounts.

The whole concept of safe botting amuses me.
If you're afraid to get banned, don't bot.

      Period

      ---------
      I haven't done a fresh install in ..... forever.
I run VMs not because I'm paranoid but because I run trains and my rigs work well with them.
If I get banned, I just start over and am back to where I was typically less than 24 hours.
I haven't lost a bank toon yet and I miss most of the waves.

Don't be an idiot and you're fine.
