I got two of my main accounts banned despite only starting hb maybe a few weeks ago to test out a combat routine for pvp. Botters make up a tiny percentage of wow's overall population - without us, there are still millions of subscribers and blizzard is still very profitable. We really do not have any leg to stand on. Threatening to not play the game again is naive - many of you will be back in 6 months, despite what you say right now. MMOs are addictive for a reason. There's no way in hell if you play everyday for 10 years, you can just give up going cold turkey. They know this. Whether you used HB for one min or 10 years is irrelevant, the intent and purpose of botting is clearly against the EULA. We all knew this. We all knew the risks. So stop trying to be outraged when we got caught. There is no legal standpoint that gives you the right to bot, even if you paid for your subscription. When you click accept at EULA you are agreeing to a contract to which you are bound. Frankly, a 6 month suspension is lenient given the fact that they could permanently ban you. I say this as a law student. I can't be mad at blizzard because botting is inherently unfair to other game players so I can understand why they banned us. They are doing their jobs whether that means fucking us over. The only people who should be angry are those who did not use HB but still got banned. I suspect the real number of these people to be very few (despite people claiming otherwise).
Yeah I say now cause i'm mad that i'm not coming back but I bet i'll log in the day my ban is over and be back at it lol.
Whether it is a considerable population or not, blizzard is first and foremost a business. You think they did this without accounting for potential financial losses? fat chance. The reality is that wow is the most profitable MMO in the business, other MMOs run today with populations of less than 10,000 - Everquest is still being run today. Even if the number of subscriptions totaled 1 million (which i doubt), they still have millions other subscribers. Botters are not WoW's target market. If you bot, chances are you also buy cheaper game time or cd keys from 3rd party vendors or buy/sell gold - all things that do not profit blizzard. I bought gamecards for cheaper from other people and never paid Blizzard directly for any of my accounts. From their point of view, i'm not a customer worth keeping. The gravity of the situation is that the people who are most likely to quit indefinitely are those that botted the most and could not possibly play the game without it - the people who botted lightly are more likely to come back as they did not have any reliance on it in the first place, which is exactly what blizzard wants.
The minority you are referring is probably the field bots who farms monsters, leveling, gathering nodes or do other shity tasks. The millions you are talking about there is actually normal players amongst them who are in the top guilds and are using the honorbuddy to be able to perform at 100% and execute most complex tasks at the same time. Who could resist that?
Look, of course personally, i don't have any problem with botters. I am one myself. But that does not make it right. To say that every single person to perform at a high level in this game needs to be automated is absurd and frankly insulting to those that are there without using bots. I'm a lazy person and i liked using bots, but i'm not stupid enough to be mad about getting caught red handed. I used honorbuddy for maybe 2 weeks max and i got a rank 1 (legit) account banned as well as another account with a swift spectral tiger. I played the game and lost. I'm not mad about it.
Agreed. I expected to get caught with in the first month. I got 8 months of use and 7 + 100s at the end was only using CR with enyo for a 1 day raiding 10/10 H BRF and garrision bots to do the dailies. I was only playing 1-2 times my self a week I was getting bored. Thumbs up it was fun while lasted but my 10 year account will be retired even when the ban is lifted. and that's ok. HAHA im sure everyone one saw good move on Blizzard ban after sub payment posted. Classic.
Botting isn t unfair , you must be in wrong forum^^. For me its fair, unemployed players play WoW are near same as bot play all the day ;-).We botter just want have a normal life and be good in the game .
I'm mad. I'm really just upset at the fact that they said I was exploiting which according to their terms (which I have just read for the first time ever) I did not do. They have botting aka using 3rd party software listed separately from exploiting. They are 2 different entities. If this is someone's first time offense I can understand a suspension up to 14 days as it is written for people who violate the terms. I do not agree with a 6 mth ban for someone who has had an account for a long period of time for a first infraction. I hope that all the people who this is their first time getting in trouble and violating terms get lesser penalty. I know I broke the rules and I should be punished but it is a bit extreme imo. This is the first time I have ever botted and I haven't long either. I only used it to level my alts while I slept. I didn't use it in any other way. This really isn't an unfair advantage bc I can buy a lvl 90.
I totally agree How can be wrong a thing that everybody can do if they want ? To tell the truth probably buddy gave the chance to raid and farm to people that would never been able to cause of time or cause of skill I can still play and raid with my toon and am lucky cause i was not banned on my main which i never use to bot but lets face it now in my guild i lost 3 or 4 great players that just used the bot to farm food, consumables and do dailies .... how is that gonna be fair or improve gameplay of people that dont bot ?!?!?.... this is bullshit
See the thing is they did not differentiate from those who were raiding, to those who were pvping, to those who were levelling. They did the ban based on the usage of 3rd party software to automate actions. It may seem stupid to ban someone for 6 months just because they used it to level to 100, but again, they are clearly not banning based on what kind of botting you did, but based on the fact you used a bot. every single person who used/bought/downloaded honorbuddy was well aware of the possibility of getting banned, and after several years of widespread use, they finally decided to ban indiscriminately to make a point. 6 months is excessive but it's better than a permanent ban for sure. I likely won't be back in 6 months, but oh well. A shorter ban would probably not deter most people from continuing to use it. There are winners and losers in the banning. The ones that got to bot for several years are clearly the winners, whilst people like me who botted very recently are the losers, but in the end, the result is the same.
Indeed, I botted only to collect dungeon mounts, and farm reputation over the past few weeks, so really not much at all. I did it on my main/only account, one char having 6 gladiator mounts, and I acknowledged the risk of doing it. I did it safely, monitoring while playing another game or watching TV. I think that the ban will improve the overall quality of pvp down the line (hopefully), but the pvp is still shitty, which is why I started botting for things I didn't need. I guess it's an eye-opener at how WoW is quite an addiction. I'll probably try to avoid it when the ban is lifted in Nov but who knows. I'm ok with the ban
Yup! I was pissed but I'm over it. Getting mad and carrying on and raging like I am sure probably half the people that were banned did is like getting pissed at the cops for getting arrested while drinking and driving. You knew it was wrong and you did it anyway. It doesn't matter if i got a 6 mth or 6 day ban im never botting again! I guess I'm a fool for thinking blizzard wouldn't care if I just leveled my toons. The paid 90 boost for 60 is an unfair advantage to me because I cane afford that much money. I didn't farm or use it pvp or rugs or any of that just level. It is extreme but I'm in the appeal process. Might be able to get off on a technicality might not. Like you said, at least it's not permanent!
that sir is a good example of 'gaining an advantage in-game' even if you just use the gold you get leveling. people actually level toons over and over to farm gold. so you arent a special snowflake. you bot just like the rest of us. exploiting game mechanics to gain an advantage.
