HB won't start. Says "unable to check for an update" and "will not be able to update" Completely uninstalled, deleted the dir, re-downloaded installer, installed. Still same issue. Log says:

are you sure the key your trying to use is the same one listed on the buddyauth website? are you sure theres no spaces before or after your key? if your sure, try flushing your dns Flush DNS - What's My DNS? reset your host file back to default. How to Reset Hosts File to Default in Windows? - AskVG and try power cycling your home router.
Flushed DNS, deleted host file, reset router. My key is fine. If the issue was the key, it wouldn't let me log in.
if you have more then one network adaptor installed on your pc, disable all of them except the one used by your internet connection.
Go to Programs and Features, in your windows Control panel. Look for: - microsoft .net framework 4 client profile - microsoft .net framework 4 extended - microsoft .net framework 4.5.x - microsoft visual c++ 2010 x86 redistributable - microsoft visual c++ 2012 x86 redistributable and Uninstall them if they are installed. And install all updates for .net & c++ Then do one last restart.
figured out what the issue was. Took some digging, but I found it. My firewall was blocking port 5031, which is what HB uses. Just had to open the port and it worked.
