I was part of the pirox banwave, stopped for 3 weeks.
Came back 10 days ago with a trial account and been botting quest (600) grinding and instanceBuddy
I think the ban may occurred from either:
Leveling too fast, 80 in 8days
Same IP but differnt Battlenet and email
      Player wisper from using InstanceBuddy
10 day trial account checkup (Blizzard prob does a random check a once trial account time is over, makes sense)
Grinding too much, 400++ kills on each mob that i grinded
WoW erroring (although i didnt get ported)

However despite all of this my 72hr suspension was cut short by 69hrs.
I was monitoring the bot with BuddyCenter when i was dced, i left coz i might aswell give it a rest. I VNC'ed back home to relog it, "I kept getting a check your username and password" error.
So I went to BN and did a change password which also did a character restore at the same time. Did it twice by accident, all this before i realised i was actually suspened when i check the email to change password.

      'Account Action: 72 Hour Suspension
'Reason for Action: Terms of Use Violation -- Exploitative Activity: Use of Third Party Automation Software

So i was like fkkk. During the next hr after lodging a password reset/character restore,
They emailed me consecutively, one about your charcter has not been made any changed then a min later came "72hr suspension lifted" email saying they have withdrawn the decision made early on.

'Thank you for contacting us concerning the recent action taken against the World of Warcraft account ******@****.com . While we understand your concerns regarding the status of this account, we take matters involving the integrity of the game environment very 'seriously.
'Due to a second thorough review of the circumstances involved in this account action, we have made the decision to modify the previously communicated penalty. This additional review took into consideration a variety of factors including the history and standing of this 'account. Please understand that should another incident arise in the future, it is possible that a different outcome will be reached.

I didn't actually chase up on the ban coz i thought it was ok, maybe the character restore was a simiar enough to iniate blizzard to review my account.
Seems weird though because any logs and investigations made on their side would definitly been from 72hr to perma.
Yet the 72hr ban was lifted, i wonder how.

Has this happened to anyone before?

Well out of your list of reason why you might have gotten it...

      1) Lvl 80 in 8 days.. eh.. too many manual guides to this being a reason
      2) WoW Erroring.. if you read the wow forums.. alot of people have been having issues lately with crashes...
      3) alot of people grind alot, i've hand leveled toons JUST grinding as have alot of people I know.. why? just cause its possible, slow but possible..
      4) 10 day trial? too many people sign up for trials to be THAT exact.. if it were the case ALOT of people would be banned/suspended
      5) Same IP... eh.. shared networks (wired/wireless) too common

My guess.. your IB whisper you stated.. probably a player report on your account/toons. The 5 above.. are highly doubtful ...

grats on gettng your account back.. i'd suggest you look at how you bot and you'll probably see areas you can fix...

is kinda odd.. I got a 72 hour too, but I didnt use IB or anything, I did have a trial account I botted to 20, then bought WoW got to 60 then bought Wotlk, then got banned at 68 or so after I stopped botting for a while =/
