What generation is the Honorbuddy program in regards to botting in general.

I feel glider was the first generation of botting programs, buts thats my opinion; what are your thoughts?

I wish to clarify this as I am writing a detailed guide on HonorBuddy and want to understand where it came from in the generation line.

      Well, maybe something like this?

      Gen1: Glider

      Gen2: Yoink: Glider Forums

      Gen3: SuperYoink

      Gen4: Gatherbuddy

      Gen5: HB / GB2

Well, it'd actually be Gen6, as OpenBot would be Gen2 (came after Glider, and was its only real competition for quite a while)

I miss openbot, it was a fun bot, I liked watching my resto druid tank tons of people in BC BGs.. I lost about 7 accounts in the banwave, 6 of them had R1 wintraded 3v3 teams too :< (and they survived the wintrading banwave)

Seems to be a bit of info lacking on the timeline.

The first bots made were Autoit bots (the fishings ones were the only real useful ones at the time)

Then WoWSharp was the next bot. Started out as a fishing bot and was also the first one to use injection.
This one became very popular and soon had a huge community of programmers and botters.
These bots were fast and simple to write. I don't remember the name of the author for the API but it was an outstanding piece of software.
Blizzard's Warden was specificly introduced to combat this software. How I missed the banwave here is beyond me.
The author developed ways to hide the injection but with Blizzard's unlimited rescources WoWsharp eventually died.

After that, ISXWoW an addon used in conjunction with InnerSpace (Lavish Software) was developed. Lax the Author of Innerspace maintained a tripwire setup to determine when Warden changed.
Eventually ISXWoW became known as openbot. I believe that Blizzard bullied Lax into discontinuing his support for isxwow. Hence ending openbot.

Glider was born during the openbot era and gained popularity . they also used a tripwire setup to combat Warden and did not inject code into the memory. Alot of you probably know how Blizzard stopped them. (still in litigation)
Glider was on the verge of having everything we have here. Ppather was very similiar to the mesh system used here, BGs were actually very well handled ( I have 4 toons with full pvp gear from that time), questing, vendoring, mailing were coming along nicely as well.
I narrowly avoided the banwave there by quitting the game for 2 years.

I just came back and found HB as a very well developed bot.

I will say one thing "Don't Believe for one second that Blizzard doesn't know all about HB." Blizzard has taken down every great bot. However, I believe (possibly wrongly) that Blizzard is being much kinder to the botters.
They are of course a significant part of Blizzard's revenue.

I don't know how I have avoided being banned. All I can say is I have never sold gold or accounts or monopolized any part of the economy. I probably enjoy botting more than playing the game, however I enjoy playing at the endgame for myself.

Sorry for the wall of text. If i'm wrong please correct me but is as close to accurate as my memory serves.

Lol the WoW Sharp website is still up with their source code available. I won't post link but can easily found by doing a search.

Well with isxwow and innerapace there were a few bots that worked it it. There was wowbot I think it was called and openbot. Isxwow was like the plugin that allowed innerspace to work with wow and then isxwarden was what protected it. I miss that, it was great and I believe that HB has very similar coding to openbot (at least the language). Glider was good but IMO came no where close to openbot.

Your right it was Wowbot then Openbot. there were a few others that used isxwow to make bots but those 2 were the best.
Openbot was better than Glider for the most part, simply because openbot used injection and could be minimized.
However, after Openbot was shutdown Glider really came into it's own with Ppather and the questing plus, my favorite, being able to partybot (although was not very good).
