IP addresses and MAC addresses are associated with a machine, not an application. What you want can certainly be done, but you will have to run each WoWclient/Honorbuddy combo in a distinct virtual machine. There are several to choose from--VirtualBox, Parallels, and VMware probably being the most well-known. Getting WoWclient/Honorbuddy to run in a virtual machine will cost you considerable performance and resources. You will need powerful hardware to do this. And even so, you may be disappointed with the final result. Also, setting this up requires substantive technical skills, and not everyone can do it. And one last thing... Honorbuddy is not supported in this configuration. Bossland GmbH will not be forthcoming with help for it, and the Community may or may not be. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but such is the state of things. cheers, chinajade
Never tried that, but I am rather certain it would work. Each virtual machine looks like dedicated (virtual) hardware, all running on top of one set of physical hardware. cheers, chinajade
I'm currently running a VMWare virtual machine, with Wow client and HB running fine. My machine is pretty high spec, but the graphics card is about 5 years old, so it doesn't require hugh graphics capabilities. Just remember to turn the graphics setting down to minimum, and vsync OFF. I'm running through a VPN connection, so the mac address and IP on the virtual machine are different to the host/main computer. All seems to work well enough - although running more than one virtual machine might be tough on the computer! One thing - I tried Virtualbox and VMware, and found 3d performance in VMWare much better. I do get occasional crashes in the wow client (often in Stormwind, which is annoying), but it's pretty cool the way I can shutdown the VMWare screen, and leave my virtual machine running and botting in the background.
All those talking about VPN/Virtual Machines: You still have one router towards the internet. That's the IP address and the MAC address that the WoW servers see. As long as you're still connecting to the Internet through one router, all your VMs and VPNs are utterly futile.
You're absolutely right about IPs through a NAT router. However, not everybody uses a NAT router. VPNs though, are a completely different story... One of the purposes of VPN is to hide/proxy the true IP address (The VPN's primary purpose is to provide a secure connection between geographically-separated locations such that the participating machines believe they are connected by a single homogenous network) So yes, it can be arranged for each VPN tunnel to the VPN host to be a distinct IP (even behind a NAT router). For instance, each virtual machine could connect to separate VPN host services, if you wanted to carry it to the absurd. But, your point is well taken... IMHO too, trying to hide IP/MAC is futile. This might minimize the damage if you 'get caught'; however, the effort is probably best spent by not getting caught in the first place. Do research, bot smart. cheers, chinajade
I'd be interested to hear the mechanism behind this : while no network expert, my understanding is that ip/mac info would be coming from vpn provider, and not the nat router. I understand how it's possible to bypass a nat router to view the internal ip address on my local network - are you saying it's possible to tunnel past the vpn provider to recover the original info?
I would think there could always be an excuse of i have a roomate, or multiple roomates and i was not botting. yes, we share an internet connection, but no..we don't share an account. the VPN would have a different MAC address (assuming MAC addresses behind the NAT router really matter...or that MAC addresses matter at all to Blizz) My reasoning for running it inside a VM, at least originally, was that I don't want the bot executable to be running in the same memory space as my main wow acct (call it paranoid about Blizz scanning running processes). That was ages ago before I got lazy and started using LazyRaider, etc on my main....but I continue running 2 purely bot accounts in the same VM.
Wait wait... what if i have this setup? no vmware or anything and a simple linksys router with static ip Laptop 1: Two bots running on VPN1 PPTP Laptop 2: Two bots running on VPN2 PPTP Laptop 3: Two bots running on localhost ip address Are you saying they've been able to detect my real IP address on laptop1 and laptop2 ?
