Yeah I don't think the butchering bug ever got addressed properly. I just dropped butchering altogether to avoid having to deal with it.
I did the same when my character would repeatedly take 3 steps away and return to the mob it had tried to loot. I assumed this would be addressed by the time I felt brave enough to use Ryftomate again. I was lucky on the first wave, but my friends weren't.
