      Ok so yes im a noob I dont know much about making my own paths and stuff but ive found out for protecting a macaw such as,

      <Item Name="Parrot Cage (Hyacinth Macaw)" Id="8494" />
      What would the code be for a first mate hat. http://thottbot.com/i2955 <--LINK

      Am i correct if i say <Item Name="First mate Hat" Id="2955"/>?

      yeah that works

      Often in the protected heading you usually have it written like
      <ProtectedItems>
      <Item>2955</Item>
      </ProtectedItems>
      not sure if the way you mentioned works but yeah i usually do in Item tags
