The fact people dislike win 8 is mainly because they can't grasp how the start menu works

 

the reason people dislike win8 because for 20 years we had the same menu just getting more beautiful and polished, but that changed and actually metro ui is for tablets or touchscreens does a gamer uses a touchscreen for his pc? NO!

 

dev team can't even get tuahna's problem to get fixed, what would they know bout win8, stick to 7 or ur f*cked

 

I find a lot of people who are hating on Win8 havent actually used it.

The OS itself is actually better than Win7. Faster, more light weight, more secure.
So it isnt Win8 that is shit, it is the "Metro" UI. When people just realise this is just the start menu in a different view, they will get used to it.

I use a Win7 computer for 12 hours a day, and have been using Windows OS since 3.1. Took me all of half an hour to get used to the "Metro" UI, when I actually sat down and... get this... tried it for myself!

If you really dislike it that much, there are ways to disable the metro UI.

But the "Metro" UI is just one part of Win8, and to say it is shit because of one part is naive, and it stinks of people getting on the MS hate bandwagon.

If you actually have tried it, and actually hate it, Id love to hear why... for reasons including "Metro" UI and for others.

It is also a desktop OS, and they have used similar technology for their server side.

Safe to say the experienced development team at MS have a strategy and probably know more than random forum guy.

 

The problem with it being "Faster" is they've stripped some vital functions of the operating system many people are simply not enjoying.

For people who actually code and want to get around to things faster, they're not going to sit there and navigate through the Metro UI. It's counter-intuitive, and if you don't believe me get out a stopwatch and have at it. I have tried it extensively, and at the end all I did was install the stardock start menu and remove the Metro UI by force in the registry. So, not worth it.

The main problem with your "It is also a desktop OS" is because it wasn't made for desktops, you can stop there. It was made for touchscreen computers and tablets, they were forced to group in desktops. I only like a couple aspects of windows 8 being the fresh slate wiping thing, and it simply being faster. However, I do not enjoy being forced into their stupid microsoft bandwagon, I don't want a stupid account. I won't use it, and if you don't have one you can't get the apps, which I don't even want. I prefer everything on my desktop arranged using external applications to a certain extent, I have no use for the Metro UI. Don't even get me started on the way it forces apps out of the desktop, it's not efficient, and shouldn't have been forced on people. It was a horrible move on their part and just check the news, they are losing peoples faith on this one.

I'm doubting you actually use your computer to it's full potential, so it won't effect you. For people who need to get shit done, and the way they want to, being forced into their Metro crap isn't "a strategy" they're trying to play their product like a monopoly to one up apple.

 

You do realise you can still pin stuff to task bar yeh ?
And drop shortcuts on the desktop, your not "forced" to use the start menu.

If you get rid of all the apps, then its perfectly fine and could get used to it - its the apps that make it "poor" for some people;

 

At least you have used it, though we disagree at least I can respect that.

The way I see it, is while it might take longer to do things now, eventually youll adapt and things will get faster. Like just typing the name of an application will bring it up. That is great.
You are right on forcing back to the desktop, that I did find odd.

As for doubting my use, thats hardly fair. For what it is worth Im an IT consultant in the security space. Most of my time on my desktop lives in Eclipse, various VMs, putty... and freakin Outlook

But there is a big difference between power users like yourself (and me, even if you dont believe it) and the normal Windows user. Average users will just setup a tile for each app and be good to go.
Plus, whats to stop you from just clicking the desktop tile, and going to desktop mode, then pressing Windows key to go back to the Start screen... which is ultimately just a full screen start bar?

My major criticism of MS with regard to this, is they should have allowed the ability to revert to normal desktop full time... if only to stop people complaining.

As for it being faster because they removed features, List of features removed in Windows 8 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia suggests otherwise. Not much has been removed.

End of the day, we are in a world where you can pick whatever suits your needs and what you like. Just like the Android vs iOS debate. Whatever works for you.

 

I have been using Windows 8 for months and it is the BEST Windows EVER MADE, Optimized for everything and anything. People was never going to leave Windows XP because they was scared to change but guess what everyone uses windows 7 to this date, Give it a year and everyone will be using windows 8 due to the fact of all the bonuses it does for you. I had a old as printer I plugged it in, it installed the drivers then took me to a site in Aus to buy more ink THEN IT FOUND FIRMWARE AND UPDATED THE FIRMWARE ON THE PRINTER ASWELL! If you call windows 8 shit then you gotta go back to windows xp...

 

If you have a choice, I do not recommend windows 8. I just did the digital upgrade and after 24 hours, i hate it. what a waste of 40 bucks!
