I only work according to mapquest Total Travel Estimate: 1 minute / 0.51 miles Is there anyway that I can get my comcast cable internet to send a wifi signal that far ? I don't care how. Even if I gotta buy some $600 dollar satellite its well worth it for me to have internet at work for the many years I will be working there. I sit there third shift with my laptop some nights I can get a signal off a neighboring house. Some nights I can't get a signal at all. I will also need to be able to hook up other devices threw ethernet wiring at home, Like my xbox 360, home computer lab and so on..
To my knowledge, there is no wireless technology that will range 2,640 feet...I think that you may be out of luck. Not sure where you live, or what kind of cell phone service you use, Sprint just released a 4g phone and all of the others are in hot pursuit within the next couple of years, at least in the US. I'm thinking you may be able to use the phone in tethering mode to give a computer interne that way depending if your phone supports that. You would probably want an unlimited data plan because otherwise it would get pretty expensive. Not sure if a 3G would be sufficient or not to run Craft (assuming that is what you will be trying to do at work). Not sure what 3g service actually equates to in kbps but you could probably google it and find out.
I called comcast today and spoke with them. About there 3g an 4g wireless anywhere plans.. The 4g plan only works in very few places as of now, and if 4g isn't availiable you can't hop on 3g. Your just assed out with nothing. If you buy 3g service 99% of the us is covered in 3g. Because i got the triple pack now it would cost me 50 a month for the 3g service. Not worth it all With a 4g monthly usage limit and 5cents per mb overage charges. Sprint is the same. I can use there monthly bandwidth in like 30 minutes of wow. Not worth playing for 30 minutes a month for 50 bucks.. or $15,000 a month in overage charges.
Wonder if there is a battery or solar operated wifi extender that I can place in certain locations. I will climb a damb power pole and screw them in a chain up there if i must every so many feet or what ever.
T-Mobile, I know for a fact doesn't dissaprove nor provide support for tethering, meaning they don't care if you do it, but were not going to help you. I myself have a completely unlimited plan, so I do not know if you need unlimited data plan, even though I am 60% sure I read somewhere that you don't need an unlimited data plan, though you do need a plan that includes some data to be able to access it. If you would please get back to me with what cell phone you have, and what cell phone service you use, and I will try and tell you whether or not you can use it to tether. When I tether, I can use WoW, but I have never tried going into Dalaran, or raiding on it, because each time I did use it, I was on the go, and just wanted to use the internet and check my auctions... Also, I don't know if you do not have T-mobile where you live, but both T-mobile, and Cricket (I would go with T-mobile if I were you) have unlimited internet access. T-mobile's only card is 150 bucks, and it is 50 dollars a month, but unlimited internet. Also, there is no activation fee.
It IS very Possible. Really, All you have to do is remove the antennas and Build it MUCH bigger. I had a setup like this a year or two ago. Pretty sure the FCC doesn't approve, but I had wireless broadcast approx 1 mile. And Most of the Local (Rural) Wireless services actually use a standard router"reversed" to receive their Signal. You can extend wireless range significantly by building a cantenna - a highly directional antenna made from an appropriately sized tube. Pringles cans make cantennas that can reach over half a mile with some tweaking. But the "highly directional" part is the problem. To get really long distances you need line of sight, and it'll only work properly if you have the antenna pointed in precisely the right direction. Cantennas are fun to play with, but probably not suitable for what you want to do. If you do want to build one, here's the specs/howto

I had looked at the hawking directionals before, but the reviews people left were saying that there internal wifi cards were picking up better/more reliable signals than that thing.. Directional would work. My house is a 3 story home and my work is in a 1800's church that can be seen from 30+ miles away. So I can surely see it from my third floor and aim at it perfectly. I work in a childrens lock up (Jail) for kids 12-18 years old. I been picking the lock every night to get into the closet and hook up my wireless router to there modem. Its risky though. Don't wanna loose a great job over plugging into there internet. There worried about being hacked and having all the DSS / DCF files stolen.
