Hello, I am about to build a new rig for botting. Unfortunately, I have no idea which GPU to pick. At first I thought about HD 7750 1GB, but I did some testing IRL regarding the actual needs. The lowest end GPU I got my hands on was a HD6850 1GB, which with 22 wow accounts, according to MSI afterburner, was only ~19% in use on my current rig (65% usage of 2500k & 87% usage of 16gb RAM). So I would like some suggestions for a GPU that is preferably 28nm and powered only through the PCIe slot (less heat + no wire clutter) and cheaper than a 7750 (which apparently still would be total overkill for 30-40 bots). Thanks.
I'm sorry that this isn't a response to your question. But you blew my mind when you said you were running 22+ wow accounts
gpu doesn't matter passed a certain extent, you're going to need a lot of ram and cpu power moreso than gpu I have ran 20 on my rig and the gpu really doesn't get used, according to the afterburner Anyways, get 32gb of ram - it will go a long way with that many accts. I run an amd 6950 on my bot compo and a amd 7970 on main. Other than some gfx improvements (which bots don't need), I didn't notice much Both rigs have: AMD 8150 @ 4.4ghz Crosshair V mobo Corsair H100 push/pull (4x120) liquid cooling 32gb ddr 3 1000w (bot) / 1200w (main) psu's amd 6950 (bot) / 7970 (main) gpu's SSD's and each can easily run 20 wow accts, some d3 accts, swtor, WoT, GW2, Rift, etc... and with liquid cooling, they can easily be OC'd to 5.0 ghz Not sayin get AMD if you like intel/nvidia, but it's what I like bc it's cheaper and it works for what I use it for
I actually have 2x6970 crossfired in my gaming rig - all Cayman Pro based GPUs are too power hungry and hot. Not dreaming of using either of them for 24/7 botting, even underclocked they're a terrible waste of power. I am only interested in matching my needs, not exceeding them. Prime contenders at the moment are GT640 and other, older HTPC-tier GPUs that are quiet and cheap. And yes, a Xeon and 32gb RAM is a given.
