Hey guys so my little brother recently destroyed his OS and wants to get files off of his hardrive from his laptop is there anyway to do that? and another question aswell my grandfather destroys computers left and right is there anyway to plug a desktop cpu hardrive into something that can get files off of it and then load them onto a new computer? i know ive seen guys at like geeksquad that have a device like that or something. thanks
What kind of harddrive does his laptop have? You can connect via SATA to your PC and copy the files you need. Same to your grandfather.
Thermaltake - SATA Hard Drive Docking Station with eSATA and USB Connection - ST0005U im buying that for my grandfathers computer and let me see the hardrive in the latop issssss...... i cant figure it out ahaha its the ASUS laptop M70S version im pretty certain it has 2 hardrives in it but dont know how to figure out what kind
not sure if this is what u mean but when i do the setup on the laptop (the only thing i can get to) in the boot/hardrives department i can see the SATAM - ST9250827AS
what kinda as in SATA or IDE ? if its a newer pc i would most def say its SATA . IDE is still avialable but i rarely see pc's with them any more soon the SATA will be replaced with the Solid State Drives in a matter of time
the desktop positively has a SATA in it and the laptop i just posted about what it is i just took it out of the laptop. now another question is it safe to plug it into a docking station like the one linked above if the laptop died because of a virus? or would it just transfer the virus to my computer that i plug it into? hes trying to save his data somehow without it having to be erased which im doubtful thats possible (on the laptop) the desktop has no viruses or anything so im safe to xfer stuff over
well if your laptop has/had a virus its always possible that it can affect your current pc , but well if you want your files back youll have to take that risk i would stay away from system files just get what your really concerned about an be done with it then scan what ever files you got off your harddrive to see if any possible threats still linger it might be possible to scan your hard drive before you copy any files to you working pc
alright sounds good ill take the risk i guess since im getting paid for it all he needs off of it is his hardrive (the one with a virus) is his online college work so he can get hw done etc should that be fine? i dont plan on doing and windows/system stuff just like pictures/hw
yeah i think youll be fne, an if he thinks its a virus does he know where it could have come from if so stay away from that any files that he downloaded i would not transfer an i wouldnt open any thing until i scanned what i got off the HD
okay so i got both of my bros harddrives out of his laptop and onto the harddrive docking station for SATA etc harddrives and he needs files off of his C:/ drive but there is no like C/D/G drives just like 3 folders he had on one and the other is blank. possible the virus just erased his harddrives?
could have or you could have just had a hard drive failure , since there was 2 drives do you knwo if it was set in a raid config ? like raid 1 or 0 ?
Why spend $55 on a docking station when you can just plug the drive directly into your motherboard for free
yeah you can do that but then your gonna have to open your pc up to do all that maybe some ppl would rather just have the station
Easier method , tech one, simply download ironboot version 13.0 , if window wont load anymore, use mini window boot, it create a tiny window which you load into your hardrive and from there you can dig whatever info you want off your hardrive, once done format. If you want to try to correct it after you digged all info you needed, simply use combo fix from ironboot and then malwyre byte it generaly clean everything and fix what it broken, to be sure scf / scan something cant recall the exact command in execute ( once you used ironboot and his utility ) with window cd in, it should fix whatever dll broken in window. You can also take the risk and do the combo fix utility before dig whatever you want off your hardrive. *** its generaly safe *** This is generaly the way a tech would go at least for most of the case. The one we using at our shop Zuruss
ahh nvm im literally retarded the C drive was just next to where it said the drive was plugged into and i did not see it. Soooo got all he needs off of it now and ready to reformat. Also i had to buy a docking station for my grandfather because he wanted one to have for all the comps he breaks and wants stuff of of the harddrives sooooo it worked out good for brothers comp aswell
wow though i posted already lol... sooo i got all the stuff off of it and tried doing the reformat i had to change boot priority to even get the asus reformat disk to even load and it said it reset it to factory default then it goes right back to the black screen and nothing is fixed i cant load anything etc. i reset priority to harddrive like normal and still nothing any ideas?
