I could have sworn that Bossland put something up at one point on how to speed up a system to run HB/GB and WoW better, but I can't seem to find it or I've completely looked over it multiple times, so I'll ask if anyone can help me out.

I have a Dell XPS 420 (built and shipped from Dell, so it's full of bells and whistles and bloatware). It has Windows Vista Home Premium (fully updated to most current Service Pack), 3 GB ram, Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz 2.39GHz, and it's a 32-bit OS. It has a 300 GB hard drive (Hitachi HDP725032GLA360). And, I have an ATI Radeon HD 3400 Series video card (I'm unsure of the amount of memory it has). I've pulled all, if not most, of these specs from the various informational tools that Windows provides such as Device Manager and System Information (right-clicking on 'My Computer' and selecting 'Properties') so if there is something more needed please let me know where to get it and I'll be happy to.

I know Bossland said to kill processes, but when it comes to that sort of thing I don't know what items to kill. I only know them if they are fully labled with full names. When they say things like ILXdbl.msc (that's not real, and is just an example of something I'm referring to) and they don't have a very good description then I'm clueless. I've already turned off utorrent, AVG, and anything else I've installed. I've also changed Windows to run on Windows Classic instead of Aero. Anything further?

I'd also like to add, since I'm editing this post after reading something gimik wrote, that my budget is almost nill. My current settings and setup nets me an average of about 20-30 fps with a single WoW and HB, or GB, running. In Dalaran, or another crowded city, my fps drops down to approximately 5-7, then returns to about 15-20 fps. This is with every WoW setting tuned down to the lowest possible setting. I keep WoW in windowed mode as well, since HB/GB don't work with full screen play.

Hit the windows button and R at the same time (run menu) type msconfig click the start up tab and make sure programs dont load when they start up by checking them off... then restart the computer

Nuke and pave (Reinstall windows) And get rid of all the shit off that Dell puts on.

I have the XPS 420 as well, and its a GREAT machine, i have same specs except ive upgraded Ram and GPU, but other than that a Nuke and Pave will take care of processes etc. If you dont want to do that, just google, "How to speed up windows vista" And youll get thousands of hits.
I also highly recommend you upgrade to Windows 7.

Game-booster works well too. It shuts off all unnecessary processes when you switch it to gaming mode, it frees up a lot of ram.

Yeah, I wanted to reinstall the OS, but can I do that since they don't send out CDs with systems anymore? My OS is stored on a partition on the hard drive. You see, my problem is, I know just enough about computers to get me in trouble, or so the saying goes. I'm pretty technical, but I'm not a high level guru. But, yes, I've wanted to redo the system for a while, but I was never sure I could since the installation of windows is stored on another partition of the hard drive. As for upgrading to 7 it's beyond my budget right now as I'm basically on something similar to a fixed income. I have very little 'waste' money. I have enough to pay the bills, take care of living expenses, and pay my WoW sub. Being disabled is a bitch because I can't work.

Yeah, Kickazz was having an issue with Game-Booster and Bossland commented asking him why he was using a program that did nothing when all he'd have to do is manually kill processes himself. >.<

Ati 3400 series are crap for gaming. Upgrade it and wow wil run alot better. Set videosettings to the lowest and it should run a bit better.

Torrented? I've only had minor luck on finding Windows OSes that were *****ed and working. The last one I was able to find was 98SE. I'll give it a shot and see what I can find along the lines of 7, but with my current specs, will 7 work? I don't know if I'll have hardware issues. I can't upgrade any hardware right now since I'm completely tapped, and I didn't notice if the machine was Win7 compatible.

W7 will work. Try a 64bit first. If that doesnt work try the 32bit. If thats your only pc download all the drivers first. Drivers & Downloads=
The vista 32 bits and 64 bits.
