With the new pay4plugin system, am predicting alot of threads getting spamed with talks about it. So I've decided to make this thread where we can all talk about it, therefore being able to keep threads clean and concerns answered. This isn't a do you like it or not thread, as you'll still be able to use the bot as-is, plugins aint required to do what you paid for, these are just nice bonuses at a set cost. My personal concern is the amount of extra work thats gonna be dumped on top of all the dev's, and how much impact that will have on the 'core bot' itself with having to fix plugins due to them being paid for. So does this mean that the updates that come thick and fast that we're used to are gonna slow down? Does it mean 'anyone' can make a paid plugin if it passes the devs 'test' for usefulness and weather it works with bug free ?
i believe that the Dev that made the plugin gets a % cut, and Bossland and company get a % cut. We get the product. with that being said -- it will be that Dev's job to have managed ePlugins as per the contract made between that Dev and the owners of the company. So I personally dont think that it will not affect GB/HB as far as current service from hawk/boss and other devs
where is the announcement for this, i cant seem to find it anywhere...? oh and i wouldnt really mind it edit: never mind found it. i wonder if the buyers of gatherbuddy will the the fishing addon for free tough... seems like a farming part to me... but then again i wouldnt mind having the shell out some extra $ for usefull plugins
Currently the only paid plug-in is provided by the Dev team. EDIT: If I were to create a plug-in or start charging for my CCs it would be a different story. But for now, I don't see why anything should - or has to change.
I'm very interested to see how the pricing will work for current customers and how they will manage session limits if it's just one program.
Well you see this is another concern Pay4Classes, could quite possibly be, Well this bot only does x and x, So if you want a CC todo, Lets says for instances, Hardcore PvP or AoE Farming, Then it might come charged.
I don't like the idea of Pay4Anything other than the main engine. The whole point of being able to make your own CC's, Profiles, and Plugins is to expand the community, help others, and make the entire operation better as a whole. Only allowing people who pay to use your plugin/cc/profile stifles development, keeps other people out of the loop, and degrades the community as a whole. I understand wanting to get paid for your time spent coding, but you should get a real job for that. I put 50+ hours into my CC so far in writing and testing and don't plan on charging for it (or anything I make here, this isn't a job, it's a hobby). I'm doing it for myself and to help others and allow the community to grow. My 2 cents. Note: my post doesn't apply to the devs of the engine itself, but for 3rd parties.
I do have one big (well I feel its big) Question, The Questing addition to the bot has been in Dev sometime now, And we all thought it was going to be part of the bot. So I put this to ya. Is the questing feature going to be part of the 'Core bot' or is this itself going to be a Paid Plugin?
eAH was developed by a professional developer (for all intents and purposes) and contracted to by Honorbuddy/Gatherbuddy the company. Therefore, the company owns eAH. The fact that it is released as a plug-in is a side issue. EDIT: Sorry, I just have to get my facts correct here - eAH was developed by an employee of the company. The amount of functionality and worth added to HB by this add-in is phenomenal. If this was released as a standalone application would you have a problem with it?
If it was standalone, and advertised as such - no. But when you start paying for addins to the main engine, you get to the point eventually where its 20 bucks for the engine, 10 bucks for your cc, 15 bucks for your plugins, 20 bucks for your profiles, 10 bucks for the mesh... it can get ridiculous. I'd like to avoid that. The bigger the community gets, the better the bot gets. Paying for each individual addon deters people from ever using them, and may deter people from the program altogether.
This. One of the big draws of HB was that it has a low price, with an active community extending its functionality. Nickel-and-diming people for additional features will simply drive customers elsewhere.
You're making the assumption that because one paid plug-in has been released the entire future of Honorbuddy is going to be a pay per use system. There has never been any mention of this and I seriously doubt this is even a remote possibility. And the sort of money we're talking about for this plug-in is going to be minimal - less than the cost of a cup of coffee and a sandwich.
So yet another person assuming that anyone capable of developing a plug-in, a CC, a profile or a mesh is going to start charging for it. When it all comes down to it anyone with some programming knowledge could develop eAH. If you want a free auction house bot make one. In fact, if I recall correctly there were two people working on this already.
Before erenion deleted his thread by mistake, Hawker did say anyone can make a paid plugin as long as there willing to supply them with the source code so they could check it over.
Thats great news. I guess its time for the Fpsware Professional Custom Class pack to be released. Don't worry you won't be paying a huge one-off fee to use the CC's. You'll be charged automatically by credit card per hour of run time. And if you order now throw in a free set of Ginsu knives. But wait there is more.... if you order in the next 15 minutes I'll throw in a second zip file containing exactly the same CC's absolutely free. And for one lucky person you will receive a third zip file. Now that is value for money!
I'd be interested to know how licensing would work if someone wanted to do this. I know they were going to be some changes to the licensing server but I don't know to what extent.
sarcasm, An artform lost in a virtual world Norty norty, Double posting, Tisk. He did say the plugin system will be redone. And the new account thing is a clue to it, Your account will have what plugins you can and can not use from what I can figure out. So you'd download the plugin, It would check with your account details, then send a true or false back which in turn will choose the plugins on or off state?
Greed is a powerful tool. I foresee Honorbuddy and Gatherbuddy moving towards this direction. Why not try to make some extra cash.... Personally i would leave, it comes down to nickle and diming everyone for every add-on.
