Had to reinstall the OS on one of my boxes, and its reinstall media goes back to win7 SP1.

Despite using the HB installer and it seeming to install just fine, when I try to open HB, it says VS 2015 C++ isn't installed, and asks if I want to install it.

The window sends me to the web address where I download the x86 version, and I have to use compatibility mode to get it to run the installation without errors. Even after installing it, HB says I still need to install it.

I tried just updating the OS, but it seems that the legitimate ways of doing so no longer exist - at the very least, they seem to not be working for me.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

      remove:

      - microsoft visual c++ 2005-2015 x86 redistributable

      restart your pc,
      download the installationwizard http://updates.buddyauth.com/BuddyWizard.zip
      run them as administrator.
after wizard installation is done, run windows update. And install all updates for .net & c++
      install https://www.thebuddyforum.com/BuddyWizard.exe
      restart

      Thanks for the response, Tony!

      Installation Wizard Error:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

Used "Run as Administrator". Also, the executable disappears after I try to run it, which I've never seen before.

Trying to download via IE and Chrome (originally FireFox) and both FF and Chrome are complaining about viruses on it, and IE just bugs out. FF is the only one that allowed me to punch through and get a zip file to show up.

Sorry, apparently "security essentials" was blocking all of this. Turned it off and now that program is running. Will keep you updated, but Security Essentials doesn't like the Installation Wizard!

I also was unaware that any security anything had been installed or running. My apologies there.

Sorry for not having all my ducks in a row, can win7 even use windows update now? Nothing I've done has allowed me to use windows update for anything at all. Maybe I borked something in the OS reinstall?

      Thanks in advance.

      Thanks Tony!

I'd left my box on for a full day and kept getting "searching for updates on this computer", and it never got any better.

Turns out that I needed to install https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3125574 AND the prerequisites, which required me to not only download and launch them, but to then restart my computer and re-launch the installers for them to work. NOTHING worked without the restarts.

After the updates, and following what you wrote, HB works just fine. Thanks again, and hopefully this thread can come in handy for your troubleshooting down the road!
