Since I have returned home from college I began to use my desktop computer, which has Norton Security Suite. Something strange I have been noticing since I started WoW is that after launch Norton informs me that it has blocked a process from stealing info. I look at the log and it appears that the culprit is a file in the wow directory.
      C:\users\public\games\world of warcraft\scan.dll.new
Is the file that is flagged, I run kaspersky on my laptop which never flagged anything odd. I was wondering if anything knew anything about this. My assumption is that it just sends blizz details on the hardware ie. processor, memory, graphics etc. I just thought this was kind of odd moreover, Norton flagged it's severity as high.

scan.dll has been in the wow folder for ages, and according to numerous blue posts it does exactly what you thought, it is what blizzard uses for hardware spec gathering

Thanks, saved me from having to try and disassemble the file and figure what exactly it did.
