Clearly this shows the need for a cache based authentication system? When authenticated, why not make the next attempt several hours later, or pehaps even 24 hours later? This would reduce load on the authentication servers, and prevent glitches like this.
But shorter times between authentication are better in case the mystery Tripwire system kicks in I quess, dunno
