Confirmed, they nerfed this to the ground. At lvl 74 Im getting 5181xp (with rested if that matters) out of a total 847,000 which means over 160 rounds per level.
If your getting around 30k-40k at the lvl 80-85 bracket(like me)thats very good. I'm leveling every 30mins. Still works. Also you don't GET 8-16 million exp when ur at 70 say only in 85-90 bracket. The exp changes according to your level.
Currently level 87 and it takes me 9.5m exp to lvl to 88 Getting around 40k (lets say 45k) xp per battle That rounds out to about 211 battles Say each battle takes... 1.5 mins I think that's about 5.5 hours. Mind you, I'm shit at math haha so if I made a mistake please let me know (I WANT to be wrong, I did a lot of hand leveling with those damn zandalaris and would love to get more use out of this.)

5.3 killed this lvl method. Exp nerfed and... from patch notes: Black Claw now deals 20% less damage. Hunting Party now has an increased cooldown of 4 rounds, up from 3 rounds.
Ok, so it was amazing to level 30min to 60 per level. I'm bummed to miss out on it. Didn't get there fast enough. Closer to herb/mining xp now or better? It's always nice to have alt methods of good afk leveling. Questing can glitch. Gathering is risky. It would be nice to have something to mix it up besides grinding.
Wild battles still give the normal amount of XP. I admit, its not as nice as farming lucky yi, but it beats questing
Lucky yi before patch: 190k+xp at 89 Lucky yi after patch: 64k+xp at 89 was fun while it lasted, might level my next fighting normal pets unless a new place is found
Which zone do you recommend? I have 3 lvl 24 Zandalaris... I was leveling them for this, but now it's useless... so, I was hoping to use them some other way... Are you absolutely sure that fighting lvl 25 wild pets still beats the questing speed? (Not to mention that you need some gear for wild battles, because if you're flying around you'll pull some mobs for sure... and fighting them takes time as well).
My suggestion would be to stay in this area for leveling. Add marsh fiddlers to your whitelist or uncheck whitelist. The fiddlers are still really easy to kill takes about a twice the time as Yi but for 3x the experience. That way once you have killed them all you at least have Yi to fall back on for exp while you wait for the fiddlers to respawn.
It may not help with XP, but if still farming lucky yi or other fable pets, you can use the cheese strat, Life Exchange. Cuts the fable pets HP in half, then you can use a regular pet with swarm to save time. http://www.wowhead.com/petability=277 is found on 3 & 1/2 relatively easily obtainable pets, nether faerie dragon (wild) in feralas/dire maul, sprite darter hatchling (ah, mob drop in feralas) mini mindslayer (AQ25, or AH) ethereal soul trader (tcg, $250, or AH). It makes most of the fabled pets manageable. I'd probably go for the nether faerie as it takes ~10 mins to farm, and is half levelled for you. Mini mindslayer's easy to buy, or solo farm, but it's weak until it hits 15 and you can use the first tier 2 abilities. It looks better as well. Soul trader, if you can buy it, is formidable too. On my ah, it was 95k, so not really an option until the mystery box on the BMAH drops it. All that said, if you still want to keep going with battle pet XP farming, get the list of flawless battle stone possible locations (the non-family ones are not BoA, and sell for 5k to 10k) , and park combat bot + PB + BPS in an area, it will swap in pets around the same level. Hyjal starter area respawns are prolific, jade forest, deepholm, etc. pandaren areas become phased, so it can be good and/or bad to farm for pets in jade forest, krasarang, etc.
pre 5.3 the XP on this pet battle was ?86 13000000 ; 91549 per kill of lucky = 142 kills to level up ?87 15080000 ; 106700 per kill of lucky = 142 kills to level up ?88 18980000 ; 134200 per kill of lucky = 142 kills to level up ?89 22880000 ; 161700 per kill of lucky = 142 kills to level up ?90 27560000 ; 194000 per kill of lucky = 142 kills to level up I just took a toon to fight lucky manually, first thing I noticed was his health pool has dropped significantly. He used to have 4k health, now he has 1883. The bad news is; ?86 8670000 ; 27390 per kill of lucky = 316 kills to level up I can confirm its been nerfed heavily. Just glad I got 5 toons from 85-90 in 5.2 using this method, was fun whilst it lasted.

If anyone is still interested in using this method I created a questing profile that will allow you to fight the world mobs in the area first and then lucky yi to increase exp when your waiting for the world mobs to respawn. Its similar to what I mentioned before that its still decent exp and the world mobs are still critters and fairly easy. Use quest bot load file add marsh fiddler, malayan quillrat and bandicoot to your white list and remove lucky yi set you distance on first tab of PB to 150 let me know if you need help
