I have no issue whatsoever with the new plugin system. You pay a year price for the CORE HB, and that's what you get. If you want additional functionality to increase profit (for example), or any other type of addon (aka PLUGIN) to do specific tasks, then a small fee is not too ridiculous to ask. Hawker and Boss have ALWAYS been extremely loyal, helpful, and patient to their customers. I'm certain that not only will the CORE Honorbuddy continually get improved and have new features implemented (as it always has been in the past), but that everyone will be satisfied with the cost of core HB, as well as the additional possible plugins to have HB perform the specialized tasks you'd like it to do. Like Boss said, not EVERYONE is going to use the AH plugin (I don't), so what incentive does a Dev have to continually maintain it for a minority of HB users? This way the Dev gets some form of return to the project he puts HUNDREDS (after awhile THOUSANDS) of hours into.
